I own a 2006 Ford Five hundred and noticed during the summer months it would occasionally "surge" when putting it in reverse or drive and had to hold my foot on the brake. I took it into a shop and they showed me my top motor mount was broken and said that was common on this vehicle and could account for the "surging". I had it replaced and it seemed ok until I took it in for an oil change at the local Ford dealer. They suggested I also have the fuel filter changed and the next day while waiting to park for a concert with my son (hot day w/ac on) it started surgin forward much harder than it had before. While parking I almost hit the wall! after some research I see this is a common problem on the 2005-2007 Ford vehicles sharing this powertrain. C'mon, Ford do the right thing and get this fixed with a recall, do you really want to wait until someone dies like Toyota did?
Addendum to ODI id number : 10386714 the fuel pump, fuel filter had to be replaced, and the injectors flushed - cost $800 ++. dealer now states codes show PCM needs to be replaced. Repair covered under federal emissions warranty (8 years or 80,000 miles) due to my current mileage being 79,008 miles. Dealer covered car rental until part arrives and is installed. I have a "bucking" behavior, after traveling approximately 2 hrs at speeds over 60mph (interstate travel). The car would lurch severely and hesitate, the engine revved very loudly, and the speed reduced to 40 mph, even though I had my foot to the floor on the gas pedal. After driving off the highway, it would do the same thing at city speeds and had little to no acceleration. Dealer said the codes showed it was the fuel pump and it would do the bucking and lack of acceleration after the pump heated up. Dealer said the car was unsafe to drive. The fuel pump, fuel filter had to be replaced, and the injectors flushed.
Starting since February 2010. My car lunges forward whenever at a dead stop. When shifting to drive and reverse. I have had to have my foot on brake and even almost had an accident while parking and hit the wall. Went to dealership and first they said it was my engine mount that was causing it. Then went again because the problem still occurred and they said I needed a new battery. Then they claimed it was my air filter which is a lie. I called the Ford headquarters and all they can do is take down when I called and what it was about. They are no help what so ever so what is the point of them even existing if they cant help solve the problem. They claim each dealer is independent and that they can advise that I go to a different dealership. I have wasted a good deal of time and money. Luckily I was smart and bought that premium extended warranty. I still have spent close to over $400 on repairs. Each time I went I had to pay a deductible of $100. The battery I went to sams club to get because the dealer wanted $140 but I got mine for $75. They advised to get my throttle body clean and that was $95. They said I need to have my transmission flushed which is another lie. I didn't get that done because I only have 60,000 miles on the vehicle. The transmission fluid was as red as can be and is still good for probably another 40,000 miles. The point is Ford knows about the problem and they do not want to fix the problem it apparently is happening to tons of folks out there. They need to just fix it because even though I had my throttle body cleaned the problem still comes back here and there. I just hope that no one gets killed and then Ford will finally get this right. I plan on seeing if I can get some legal help and will explore that avenue because I get my oil changes almost ever 3500 miles and I follow all the manufactures service policies. I do my part as a customer and they haven't done there part as the company that made the vehicle.
Car surges forward/backward when engaged in gear from dead stop and brake is released without having even touched the accelerator. Seems to be worse when heating/cooling fan is on, especially on recirculate, and rpms will surge/race at dead stop with brake firmly applied when the steering wheel is turned to either side. Problem is especially noticeable in parking lots or anywhere in low speed stop/go driving conditions. Concerned for pedestrian safety as I have had the car jump unexpectedly and nearly hit them. Check engine light came on a couple of weeks ago and car went into limp home mode indicating error codes P061B & P2016 which means the throttle body needs to be replaced after driving in deep snow, extremely cold temperature after car had been sitting for 3 days, the check engine light has cleared but the car continues to have the surging issues though it does seem worse in warmer weather than cold. So far I have not replaced the throttle body though I intend to as soon as I can get ahold of the part.
When you shift out of park into either reverse or drive the car surges forward very quickly. If you don't hold the brake to the floor you can't stop it. This is very dangerous! when unloading my children at school I almost ran over a child due to this defect. When I looked online I found thousands of complaints about this same issue. Ford won't recall it and the parts (throttle body assembly $800) are on a 2 month back order!
I bought my 2006 Ford 500 used in 2009 and only a few months afterwards I experienced "lurching" of the vehicle while I was slowing accelerating or reversing. This almost caused me to crash into my garage and is very dangerous when I am reversing in a parking lot as there are pedestrians. This happened randomly for about 9 months with no aftereffects. No light turned on or anything seemed to wrong other than the random lurching. However, 9 months after I purchased the vehicle I was stopped in drive to let my family out of my car in a parking lot and the car lurched while I had my foot on the brake and the gear in drive. The wrench light then came on and the car drove oddly (sounded weird and didn't accelerate well) after that. I eventually parked it and when I returned and turned the car back on the light was off and the car sounded fine. Then 2 months later I started my car and put it into reverse and immediately noticed the car sound weird again and was not accelerating. I put it into drive and basically coasted to the side of the road because there was no acceleration. The wrench light was on again. This time I had to have it towed to the dealership where they told me I had to replace the throttle body assembly. I have not had it repaired yet as I am fighting with them about the warranty I purchased and trying to find the best price as this seems to be a recurring problem.
I own a 2006 Ford Five hundred, limited edition. When the car is put in gear, either drive or reverse, with my foot on the brake, it lurches forward or backwards 75% of the time. I bought my car used almost two years ago with 71,000 miles, and thought the lurching was normal. I took my car to a repair shop, and they said it was the type of transmission. Upon further research, I found out their theory was false, and it turns out the throttle body goes bad after about 30,000 miles. The lurching occurs at least once a day, even after the car has been running for over 30 minutes. I have been lucky that I have not injured anyone with the sudden lurching because I work in a busy downtown city. Since I park in crowded lots and garages, I have come extremely close to hitting other vehicles while I'm simply putting my car in park. The problem wasn't as bad when I first bought the car, but now that it's getting older, I'm really noticing the lurching occurring more frequently. When another member of my family drove my car recently, a fence on our property was struck due to the lurching. Thus far, I have not been able to rectify this issue because the part needed (throttle body) is currently on back order for a few months. I'm hoping Ford is forced to recall this problem because it has the potential of being dangerous or even deadly.
On July 17, 2010, my 2006 Ford 500 began to lurch/surge forward/ backward depending on whether I was in drive or reverse. Took the car to Ford immediately. They reprogrammed the PCM. It was not covered by the extended warranty. Yesterday, August 6, 2010, my car began doing the same thing. Took car back to same dealer. They suggested it might be the throttle body. Research showing this is a common problem with this vehicle (and has been for some time).
My 2006 Ford 500 lunges intermittently when shifting from park to drive or reverse. The car was taken to a repair shop who could not reproduce the lunging and said nothing appeared wrong. Since it only occurs intermittently, it is difficult to even get it fixed. It appears many other Ford 500's are having the same problem.
When shifting into gear, or when taking foot off of brake after sitting for a brief period, car lunges forward (or backwards) without touching the gas pedal. This has caused many near accidents involving buildings, other autos, and pedestrians, very very dangerous. Ford dealers claim they can never duplicate the problem while it is in their shop. Someone is going to get hurt due to Ford and their inability to do the right thing and make proper repairs at their expense.
