My Mother borrowed my car to go to PetSmart to pick up cat litter and large bag of cat food. It was around 730PM. About an hour later I get a call from her and she's freaking out! She proceeds to tell me that the back door won't close. I said " what the hell did you do?" She says "nothing, just opened it loaded the cat food and litter and went to close the door and it banged, then struck back at her, She said she tried several times and it wasn't closing. My Mom was freaking out because she didn't think she could drive home, because now it was dark and the interior light was staying on. I suggested she go to the Dollar Tree in that plaza and get some rope to tie it closed.
My Mother made it home, and I ran out with a flashlight to see if I could determine the problem. I couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. Then my neighbor came out and looked at the door and said it looked like the spring on the latch fell inside the door.
I
have looked online to see if other Fiesta owners have had the same problem, and I'm reading posts that some owners are having BOTH back doors not latching! My remedy to this problem has been to do the latch system. I tried to use bungy cord, and rope, but didn't get enough tension to keep the interior lights from staying on while driving at night(and from the door not swinging open). I frequently have to re-tighten the ratchet belt to keep the door tight. Among the many, many problems I've had with this car, this has to be one of the most annoying.
I filed a complaint with the NHSTA and found many other owners to be complaining of the same issue. I have not yet received any recall letter from Ford Motor Company. I absolutely refuse to pay for this repair.
