This car has an insecure design. Something is wrong with the driver door lock. The driver door lock controls all locks in the car including the trunk. Turning the key in the door does nothing. Pressing the master lock button on the console causes a clicking sound but no doors lock. So it is not possible to lock with the master lock button and exit the passenger side. This car has NO manual locks, so it is impossible to work around the problem. Failure of one component renders the car entirely insecure.

I have not bothered with the dealer because I am sure they will want hundreds of dollars to "diagnose" this problem and probably a thousand dollars in parts and labor to disassemble the door and replace the lock solenoid and any mechanical linkages that failed.

I tried fixing it myself. The inner door panel is interesting. It is bolted on and more rigid than usual. To get near the lock solenoid you must remove the window. It is tough to get back in. After door disassembly I was stymied. There is some sort of anti-theft or supporting plastic piece that gets in the way, and it is not obvious how to release the lock solenoid and outer door handle for removal and repair.

With real cars, I can look up repair procedures on YouTube and generally follow them with only minor hitches. The only information I can find for the Fiesta is from Europe, and it appears that the "Fiesta" there is entirely different from the one I have. Different jack points, different door trim, different door internals. I tried to buy a manual, an expensive good one, and found that the manual's door directions were flat out wrong and the illustration looked like it was from a 67 Fairlane.

I am ready to buy five lock hasps and rivet them to the doors and trunk, and carry around five padlocks. Not an elegant solution but at least when people ask I will have an opportunity to rant about idiotic Ford design.
