Ford has a "Customer Satisfaction Program" 17B30 with covers 6.8 cam follower replacement BUTT, (yes that's a big but) my VIN is not included for some reason!!! It describes my vehicle, my problem should have been included BUT NO!!! Bought truck new, used nothing but spec Motorcraft Oil and Motorcraft filters every 5,000 miles, never over heated, never low on oil or abused. I have done everything right but Ford has a problem!!! I am a 68 year old car mechanic, (experienced), this should have never happened.
I couldn't wait on date Ford dealer gave me for repairs, I needed truck and didn't want any further damage or problems so I climbed upon it and replace passenger side camshaft and 15 followers. Found total of 6 followers I would consider bad, excessive play, roughness and the pictured one locked up with flat spot that ruined cam. I have an Expedition in my yard that has 300,000 on it and runs great. WHY???
