I started my F 350 diesel truck in my driveway. It ran smooth and them started to misfire and shake. It was idling in the driveway. The #3 fuel injector hold down clamp had broken off and allowed the fuel injector to pop out of the engine, spraying diesel fuel all over the engine compartment and on the ground.
If the truck was on the road, it surely would have caught fire. This causes a misfire code and shuts down the engine. If someone was towing a trailer on the highway this could be a life threatening situation. I had the truck towed to the local Ford dealer, and they kept it for 19 days. They replaced 4 broken injector clamps, but not the other 4 on the drivers side. These are cracked also, and will most likely fail soon. They should have replaced them all.
The repair cost was $ 2075. Ford reimbursed the dealer only $1500. I had to pay the other $575. Ford should have paid for the entire repair as it is a known defect and has happened to many, many others.
THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL FROM FORD! It is dangerous and could result in a blown engine along with the fire danger.my Ford case # is: CAS-15233762Q2P6TO. THESE HOLD DOWN CLAMPS ARE CHEAP CAST IRON AND SHOULD BE MANUFACTURED OUT OF FORGED STEEL. FORD HAS CHANGED THE PART NUMBER AND THEY ARE WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. FORD HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN TO DEALERS ABOUT IT - BUT NO RECALL.
I WOULD LIKE TO INITIATE A CLASS ACTION SUIT TO FORCE THEM TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND REPLACE THESE DEFECTIVE INJECTOR HOLD DOWN CLAMPS.
