at 140,000Kms, my F350 Super-duty diesel was smoking abnormally and the diesel filter was cleaning itself. It just never stopped cleaning itself. I took it to the dealer and he said I needed a new motor and the turbos were shot. $20,000 dollars was the estimate. They said I idled my truck too much. Screw that. They also said maybe I didn't change the oil enough. Screw that too. This truck was my baby. I took the truck for a second opinion to a small shop. This guy said the filter in the exhaust (Converter I believe he said) was cleaning itself and was so clogged with soot, it couldn't do the job anymore. He recommended I get rid of the current exhaust system and chip the motor. Cost around 1300.00. A hell of a lot less than the dealer wanted. Lets hope it works.
