When towing a heavy trailer we experienced light braking on the trailer brakes. The brakes did not seem to be applying hard enough. It turns out the Ford Integrated brake controller will only apply about 10 volts maximum to the trailer brakes. This is not enough to sufficiently apply the brakes on a heavy trailer (over 8000 to 9000 lbs.).There is no fix for this, "this is the way it is" according to my dealer. This is where all of the complaints about Ford trucks having to have a lot of room to stop with a trailer attached come from. If you pull a heavy trailer, you probably should use an aftermarket brake controller.
