This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The truck starts running rough, has a lack of power and blows black smoke. In the last year, it has occurred on approximately a monthly basis. In the last 7 months, the same dealership has replaced 12 fuel injectors, 1 egr cooler, 2 egr valves and 1 fuel pump. The dealership is now telling us that a cylinder, valve and piston have failed and the truck which is now out of warranty needs a new engine at the cost of $12,748.27. The truck has been at the same dealership almost every month this year including twice in April and now twice in October since March 29, 2008 for the same complaint and they expect us to pay for the engine.
