Going down freeway out of my state when the transmission blew all its oil out a seal and burned up. A Ford dealer charged me $5500 to put in a new one. Since then, I've learned that 2001 transmissions has a VERY high failure rate but not my exact problem---they have a bad piece of equipment inside that usually starts the second gear to fail. A very expensive fix. Since mine blew, I've spoken to dozens of Ford diesel owners who all know about the real article in the 2001 trans.
