Hi, the part in the trans. That failed is called the (swag )gear. How I found out. I lost 3rd and reverse coming home from nh. I brought it to a dealership to get it looked at, they said it was running hot and needed replacement, cost to do so was $2600 I new I could get it done cheaper by a trans. Rebuilder so the next day I dropped it off for repair, the bill came to $2250. Much to my surprise the owner and one of his staff said the part that failed was recalled back in Aug. 2000 all vehicles that had this trans. Needed to be replaced before selling the vehicle. I explained this to Ford motor but they said there is no recall on the trans. Parts. I did find some info on alldata.com that relates more info please call me 508 889 8782 thank you scott
