This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford F-350. While the contact's father was driving 55 mph, he swerved to avoid striking another vehicle. When the brake pedal was depressed, the driver's side tires did not stop and the steering seized. As a result, the driver struck a tree and the vehicle rolled into a ditch. A police report was filed. The air bags did not deploy. The contact's father sustained blunt force trauma to the torso and was fatally injured upon impact. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. The VIN was not available.
On July 28th around 3:00 am there was a storm earlier in the night and a tree top fell into the road and I wentto apply the brakes they locked up causing me to fish tail and lose control spinning around twice making me strike a tree and spin back around and nose dive down and embankment and land on all four wheels messed up the front bumper left fender left door cracked windshield and completely wiped out the bed.
I was involved in a serious auto accident on 11/17/98. I topped a hill and was struck headon by truck driving on the wrong side of the road. The blow was serious enough that it broke tie rods and suspension rods on my truck. I then went further down the road and down a 20 ft embankment, striking a large pine tree. Though both impacts were on the front of the truck and the truck will likely be totaled (1999 truck), the air bags never deployed. Calls to the dealer and to Ford consumer department were ignored. I think that Ford has a problem with the air bags on the new trucks. I checked my sticker and it indicated that air bags were part of the equipment.
