This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Fuel filter failure resulted in high pressure fuel leak that flooded the engine compartment with diesel fuel. Approximately 10 to 12 gallons pumped from tank at high pressure, and sprayed all over engine and engine compartment. Problem was not noticed after picking vehicle up from routine service. Noticed pungent odor which intensified as I was driving home. Dealer stated they did not service fuel filter. When vehicle was picked to be returned to the dealer, diesel fuel came spilling off the top of the engine. Diesel fuel has penetrated the ventilation system and got all over front suspension parts removing paint from these parts. Failure of fuel filter and resultant leak could have resulted in a fire, thank god it did not happen (note- fuel leak was occuring while I was driving home). Will be happy to discuss this issue via telephone to give more details.
