While driving 70 mph rear passenger side tire tread separated. As a result, consumer pulled over on the side of the road, where he found severe damage to the body of the vehicle.
Consumer was traveling about 55mph on highway and both rear tires exploded. Was able to control vehicle. Tires were 16inch Goodyear aqua treads. Dealership was aware of problem.
I was driving on hwy 10 at 63-65mph when the tread separated, wrapped around my rear axel, bent brake cable, tore fender skirts, bent fender supports, chipped paint, bent fender, trim pieces. Tire steel belts only surface to drive on, making truck inoperable. Did not turn over, but had I been on my usual route through mountain curves, would have gone over the side of the mountain. Concern that 16 inch tires are not being looked at. Do not feel safe. Firestone blaming Ford Explorer. My vehicle not a Ford Explorer. It is a tire defect. Want recall of 16 inch tires also. Firestone a hazard to every owner. I tell everyone who has Firestone tires to get rid of them. Many can't afford to pay for it. You must have these tires replaced. PE00040, bought used a 1996 F350, tire size LT235/85R16 steel tex R4S. Driver's rear tire and the front tire tread separated, and had a blowout which may have caused a crash. 3 tires had these problem.
PE00040, orginial equipment on 1996, F350 with dual rear tires, tire size lt23585R16, dot vdor1ww445. All 6 tires have cracks coming from the inside of tires which may indicate that tires are about to separate. Firestone is not willing to assist consumer.. consumer was also unable to maintain good air pressure and could find no reason as to the loss.
When the first tire failed we were on I-70. A vibration occurred and then the tire lost about half of its tread. We changed the tire and returned home safely. The second tire began vibrating on I-90 just before buffalo wy. Being only about one mile from the campground we slowly made it in and changed the tire there. The next moring we drove to sheridan, wy to a Firestone dealer where they replaced the tire free of charge plus balancing. Later I discovered the Firestone dealer replaced my load range E tire with a load range D tire. The third tire blew without warning on I-70 throwing the tread into my tow vehicle and then jamming it into the tow dolly. Change the tire and now I without a spare. The forth tire began vibrating, I pulled over and inspected the tires and found another separated tire. Not having a spare we slowly traveled to goodland, ks to try and find a tire. Being a holiday we had to wait until the next morning to purchase two more tires. With the two new tires now on the left rear we made it home safely that night. We are very fortunate after four tire failures and no accidents. I've been driving for twenty-eight years and have never experienced anything like this before. Each time before leaving camp I always checked the tire pressure and made sure it was at the recommended pressure. I drove on certified scales before and after the trip, before unloading to be sure the vehicle was'nt overlaoded. This leads me to believe there is a serious problem with these tires and should be added to the recall list immediately before more tire failures occur and possibly fatalities. Your prompt attention is appreciated.( dot number: Vd1L1xa156 tire size: Lt22575R16 )

PE00020; tire tread separation: While driving about 65 mph driver heard a noise. After pulling onto the shoulder, driver noticed tire on driver's front was ballooned out in the center. PE00020; original equipment on 1996 Ford, E350 chassis, dutchmen class C, tire size lt22575R16, dot vd1W1xb435. Passenger's inside tire, a foot long tread peeled off which almost caused a crash. While traveling at 50 mph, the right rear tire tread separted and the tire blew out. As the result, the right mud flap was torn off. The tire that blew was Firestone steel tex radial.
I was travelling eastbound on route 2 in Connecticut when my drivers side rear tire fell apart. The tread separated from the tire body. I understand that this is not one of the tires listed on recent news reports, however, the exact same thing happened to my tire as the ones seen on news reports. I contacted a local Firestone dealer in enfield, Connecticut who stated to me that the A/T tire was not in question and therefore there was nothing he could do. I reitterated to him that this is the same problem that has been seen on news reports. On Saturday, August 6, 2000, I purchased four new tires from sears. I showed the manager the tire in question and he stated that it was indeed tire tread separation and that it never should have happened. Even though these are not the tires listed, I strongly believe that a defect exists with these also and should be looked into as soon as possible. Please contact me should you need further information or wish to view the tire. Thank you.( dot number: Tire size: 23585R16E )
