Vehicle developes a severe vibration, wobble at highway speed after hitting a bump in the road..I lose all steering control till I can brake to a lower speed.very dangerous.Ford dealership has worked on this problem for me 4 times.
While traveling at highway speeds, crossing over small bumps or other disturbances in the road such as potholes or jointed sections, the vehicle began to shake and shimmy to the point of feeling like it would explode. Happened twice now and only remedy is to slow down considerably until it gets back to normal. Very violent and very scary.
I am filing this report for the famous Ford Super Duty F250 "death wobble"in the front suspension. I have had my truck back to the dealership numerous times for repair, and I am now on my fourth steering stabilizer installed on my 2017 F250 with only 27K miles on it. The first occurrence of the death wobble happened within 10K miles, and subsequently about every 3-5K miles thereafter. This issue happens when traveling at highway speeds, and when a bump or irregularity in the road comes up. The uncontrollable shaking of the entire truck renders it out of control, and can only be remedied by coming to a complete stop. It happened the first time, and threw my wife and I into the median of the interstate while going about 75mph. It doesn't matter if you're going straight, around a curve, etc. I tried to get Ford to do a buyback on this vehicle, to no avail. They hide behind the il lemon law verbiage instead of owning the issue. This vehicle is most certainly a death trap, and I will not let any of my family drive this particular vehicle just because of the death wobble. I am at a loss on what to do about this. I spent my hard earned money on this truck, only to have it be a serious safety hazard to those riding in it, and to anyone else on the road around it when the death wobble happens. The only thing left is legal action I guess, or park it in the front yard and have it be an $80,000 flower pot. Please help!!
My truck has had the front end death wobble since the middle of 2019. I have had it in the Ford dealership for repair. They replaced the steering stabilizer and told me they added some shims to correct an caster problem.. they returned the truck to me.shortly after that it began to wobble again. I contacted the same dealer to have it looked at again. I scheduled it, but they immediately told me that the next fix would require parts that were not available. So I am waiting on parts that are supposedly 60-90 days out. There are many documented complaints on this same issue and Ford will not do anything about the unsafe condition. Ford dealers are telling customers that these trucks are not designed to be driven faster than 70 mph or to spend out of pocket money to buy aftermarket parts that are known fixes for the problem. Bottom line is my 60K$ truck is still in warranty and a death trap to drive and Ford is not aggressively fixing the problem. The death wobble happens at anywhere from 50+mph when you encounter an uneven portion of road like a expansion joint at a bridge. The wobble will not stop until you are below 30 mph. When the wobble occurs it is not uncommon that you loose control causing you to be in the oncoming lane of traffic.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-250. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle shook and the front wheels zig-zagged toward the right. The contact thought it was due to the snow on the ground but the failure recurred during normal weather conditions. The vehicle was difficult to control. The vehicle was taken to bob maxey Ford dealer (313-392-9200, located at 1833 E jefferson ave, detroit, mi 48207) where the technician diagnosed and replaced the steering damper. The failure recurred, while driving 65 mph and as the driver attempted to exit the road the vehicle jumped the curb, zig-zagged until the vehicle was under control. There was no warning indicator. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact back to the dealer. The contact called the dealer and was not called back. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

While driving at freeway speed, steering wheel and suspension was shaking to the point of about to lose control. Only by driving under 50mpg was I able to safely return to a dealer for service. Hitting a bump in the road amplified the issue. I took the vehicle to the dealer where they stated it is the steering dampening system. They do not have new parts or time of repair. I was nearly in 3 accidents with a semi when this happened. It required immediate attention and resolution before anyone is killed
Crossed over vehicle warranty at 36000... at 38K the vehicle had first "death wobble" at approx 70mph (highway) after hitting minor road imperfection.. vehicle is now at just under 40,000 miles on odometer.. have had 4 other episodes in this brief period of time. This is a major safety issue that will eventually lead to someone's pointless loss of life. This issue is well documented throughout the internet in countless blogs-websites-and videos. To charge anywhere from $35,000-$90,000 depending on model and knowingly put peoples lives at risk over a problem (that my dealership and the Ford customer care program admit is a problem) and not issue a recall or buyback is reprehensible and negligent.
While driving on interstate 64, going over kaskaskia river bridge I experienced a violent shaking, bouncing up and down of the front tires. I think they call this the death wobble. I was going approx 72 mph, tire psi 65, truck mileage 24,600 mi. The truck was lightly loaded and not towing. All maintenance has been done by the Ford dealership from new. I had to brake and pull onto the shoulder, slowing to 20 mph before I regained control of the truck. I took truck to dealer the next day, they said there was a service bulletin on it and ordered parts. Parts are backordered with no delivery date.
I have had my truck in on 3 different occasions to Ford dealerships to have the death wobble corrected on the suspension system. The first (2) repairs were under warranty and the 3rd repair was just over the 36K miles and was not covered under warranty and had to pay out of pocket. This is a major safety issue due to the loss of control along with having to do sudden braking to get the vehicle under control. Cars that were behind me had to swerve to get out of the way and I have had 2 near incidents that I was almost hit by another vehicle. I cannot believe that this has not been a safety recall by Ford and I am very frustrated that this issue has been going on for so many years with out holding Ford responsible. I have lost days of work along with costs of rental vehicles while my vehicle was in the shop for repairs that did not correct the issue.
In Oct of 2019 my truck, a 2017 Ford F250, developed the "death wobble." While travelling on I-25 in Colorado springs, at approx 65 mph, I was changing lanes over a bridge joint. The truck started to shake uncontrollably, forcing me to cross a lane of traffic. I made an appointment with the dealership I purchased from and repairs were done in accordance with tsb 19-2274. The invoice number was 912963 from phil long Ford chapel hills, Colorado springs co. The truck mileage at the time of service was 24298. The stock tires were/are still on the truck and no modifications have been made to the truck. As of Jan 2020, the truck has started having the same issues. I have an appointment on 17 Jan 2020 to re-address the issue. The current mileage on the truck is 27631 and stock tires are still on the vehicle and no modifications have been made to the vehicle.
Highway driving about 70 mph. Went onto bridge/overpass/. as soon as felt the bump of the transition between road and over pass, my truck began violently shaking and would not stop. I had no steering control of the truck. Was able to finally reduce speed to about 40 mph on the busy highway and the shaking stopped. Was towing an empty 10-12 foot enclosed trailer. Truck only has just over 27000 miles on it. Truck is fully factory stock.
Vehicle hits slight pothole and steering shimmies uncontrollably until I slow vehicle to 40 to 50 mph. Took it to dealers twice for steering stabilizer replacement and only temporarily fixed problem. Now I will take to the dealer a third time for correction. Two significant safety considerations when traveling at highway speeds and the 'death wobble' occurs: The vehicle is nearly uncontrollable during the wobble event; and on a busy highway at speed the vehicle must be slowed to 40-50 mph, creating an unexpected slowdown for drivers/vehicles traveling behind.
When traveling at highway speeds between 55 to 70 mph and hit a bump the steering wheel and cab vibrates violently and need to slow down to 30 to 40 mph to stop the vibration. This occurred several times on a major interstate with heavy truck traffic and almost caused a accident when slowing down to maintain control and pull off the shoulder. I got off the interstate and drove an hour out of my way to avoid traveling at highway speeds. 2017 Ford F-250 24000 miles.
I was driving my truck on christmas day and hit a small bump on the highway and all of a sudden my truck started shaking violently and was hard to control. I slowed down to approx. 30-35 mph and the shaking went away. This is the second time this has happened. I took it to the dealer and the service tech said it was 'death wobble' and even put that on the service order. They said they would order a new improved stabilizer and that it would it would be take 6-8 weeks to receive the part. I am now with a truck that my wife and grandkids will not ride in and I am concerned about driving it. The shaking is very violent and the vehicle is very hard to control. Then, having to slow to 30mph in a middle lane on the highway is very dangerous and could cause a serious accident.
At driving speeds when the vehicle hits a crack or dump in the road, the front end shakes violently at which point the vehicle steering is compromised and can only be stopped with a quick deceleration to regain control.
Vehicle is 100% factory equipment.no changes made to vehicle. Current odometer 23,750 miles. Have experienced "death wobble" 3 times always while traveling about 70 mph. Extremely unsafe. Typically it begins travelling about 70 mph and contacting an expansion joint in the road or some similar uneven pavement. Truck front end begins shaking uncontrollably until speed is reduced to about 50 mph. Have done extensive research and know this is alarmingly common on 2017-18-19 F250/350. I personally have 2 friends who own 2018 & 2019 F-250 and both have experienced the same "death wobble". dealer states the needed part to repair problem is on backorder. Also stated currently there are 43K of these components on B/O. these numbers make it extremely apparent Ford has a huge problem with potentially thousands of unsafe vehicles on the road. The defect usually begins at 15K to 25K miles. As these trucks reach that threshold it will only be a matter of time until someone is killed or severely injured. It is imperative that Ford issue a national recall on these model trucks.
Stock vehicle. While travailing on freeway front of trick started shaking severely. Slowed down to pull over and inspect. Thank goodness no one was around me at the time. Truck was swerving at 65 miles an hour. Pulled over to inspect. Did not see anything. Started back on freeway going slower. Shaking was gone. 2 weeks later same thing. On highway again. Same thing truck started shaking violently. Slowed to 25 mi per hr. Shaking subsided, resumed to slower speed. Ford needs to fix this issue. Reading about death wobble issues in Ford diesel NHTSA. Dealership told me to get in right away. 2nd person within a week to call for same thing.
I was on an interstate going into a gradual turn and went over an expansion joint which resulted in uncontrollable shaking of the front wheels and steering wheel. This forced me off of the road striking a curb and blowing out my right front tire. My truck had done minor shaking for several months when going over expansion joints. I have had 2 other violent shaking events when in excess of 55 mph. I will no longer drive above 50 mph in this vehicle as it is unsafe. Minor road irregularities are resulting in increased but controllable shaking at this point. It is worse when turning or on a curve. It still shakes even on a straight roadway at lower speeds just not as violently. The vehicle has less than 30,000 miles and tire rotation has been conducted as set out in the owners manual.
When traveling at speeds over 50miles per hour, if the truck hits a bump it will start to vibrate and shake violently driver has to hang on and brake the truck down to 20to30miles per hour. Dealership knows of this problem and actually wrote on my paperwork death wobble. Replaced steering damper and adjusted air pressure which worked for awhile but happened again Jan 6 2020. First time wobble was end of Sept 2019 four times this has happened and it is very dangerous problem!! I do not trust the safety of this truck !
