The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-250. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to exceed 20 MPH, with the vehicle losing motive power. The contact stated that the gas light pump icon and the engine power reduced message were displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the high-pressure fuel pump had imploded, resulting in metal being found in the fuel system. The mechanic stated that the fueling system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted but no diagnostic test was performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.
