Second time this has happened. Autonation of Memphis, Tn went through this truck and could not find the cause. They replaced the fuel pump control module again but that didn't solve the problem. Actually the one I took off didn't look new. Athens Ford in Athens Ga said they replaced it.
Any fuel contamination at all causes the high pressure fuel pump to fail sending metal fragments downstream and trashing the complete system. The OEM fuel filters are inadequate to stop even the slightest of contaminates and the "Water in Fuel" light does not come on. There is no warning before the truck goes into "Low Power Mode" and you are stuck on the side of the road. Warranty will not cover it and only some insurance companies cover this kind of loss. My insurance company said it is a known problem with Ford diesels and they will not cover the $9,500 repair. The only solution to the problem was a new Chevy. Bye Bye Ford.
