This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I have taken my truck into the dealer to report my tailgate opening by itself but they said there is no recall. Recently it opened while pulling a trailer and it has caused damage. The dealer is still telling me that they do not have any options to fix it and are not willing to pay for the fix, even though they did one fix once before. This is a well documented issue reported by many people on the internet. I believe there was a recall for this on this model truck but my VIN was excluded for some reason and it should not have been. This occurs typically when you come to a stop. In my case we were pulling out of a driveway, turning right and because the tailgate dropped without our knowledge then it crushed the tailgate into the trailer. I reported this to the dealer on 6/19/2020 where they did no repairs. I reported it again on Jan 6th 2021 where they did modify the wiring harness and added jumper pi, per 19S48B. However this repair did not work and the tailgate continues to randomly open.
Cargo bed tailgate has opened while driving/operating the vehicle on three different occasions even AFTER the tailgate recall repair (FORD 19S48) has been applied.
I have had the tail gate open several times. I have had the tailgate repaired under a recall twice and then I replaced the entire wiring harness for it. Unfortunately the issue continues to happen.
Tailgate opened on its own while driving 4X so far. This is after it was taken in for a recall about 2 year's ago. Each time I was driving and it happened with the first 10 minutes. I was in the mountains camping when it happened
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-250. While driving various speeds, the tailgate unlatched without warning. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired; however, a service appointment was scheduled. The failure mileage was 14,300.
