Recall campaign 01V258000 concerning windshield wipers. When the consumer contacted the manufacturer, he was told that this vehicle did not fall into this recall although the consumer was experiencing the same problem. The wipers were intermittent after about ten miles of operation, then would not shut off. A local Ford dealer replaced the wiper motor assembly.
While driving approximately 30 mph in heavy rain windshield wipers stopped working. Consumer smelled burning plastic, and vehicle caught on fire. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pulled over. The rain put out the fire.
While traveling on the highway and without prior warning, the windshield wipers stopped while in use.. the wiper motor was replaced under recall previously, however the second time the cover and switch assembly was replaced at the consumer expense. Also the pinion seal was replaced due to a leak.
