Entire sidewall blewout at 65 mph. Have encountered 2 simmilar incidents along mn freeways in the last 2 weeks. Please contact me for additional information and photos.
Driving down a two lane highway, when we felt a bad vibration in the truck, was slowing down when the truck made a loud noise and veered sharply to the oncoming traffics lane. We got the truck under control and pulled off at the first available place.the tire did not lose any air but it did lose all of its rubber like it was a retread tire. We were very lucky that we were not towing horses at the time and that there was no oncoming traffic right at that moment.
While driving on a steel grate bridge, vehicle became very unstable, this happens at posted speed limit of 45mph. Ford said for me to contact firstone. Firestone said that all tires do this. Tire dealer agreed to prorate and exchange tires, but did not know if this would correct the problem.
I notice cracking on side of tires where the sidewall and tread meet. Had tires certified safe to operate by certified Firestone dealer per Firestone. At highway speed of 70 mph left front tire tread seperated without warning. I was able to control vehicle and come to complete stop without further incident. Tire was replaced by Firestone dealer same day, I was charged for the mounting and balancing. Estimated damage to fenderwell of vehicle to include bent metal and torn mud flap estimated damage $250. Firestone denied replacement of other tires. I have since replaced them with another brand. (tiresize: 245/75/16)

On 7/21/01 I was looking at the other tires and found cracks forming on the side walls on the other three. These cracks are three quarters to one inch in length. Vehicle fails to stop properly when brakes are applied. Would shake and vibrate badly. Took vehicle to dealership, mechanic noticed rotors were warped, which caused the braking problem. Had them replaced after 10,000 miles. Engine stalls and oil leaks from the turbo into the inter cooler. Transmission does not shift. Tires began to bulge out, consumer did not specify kind of tires. Electric window motor failed. Seals are out on the front axles and they were just replaced two months ago. Air filter system is inadaquet for this size of engine and has to be replaced every 2 to 3 thousand miles.

14400 miles on orriginal tires. Longitudinal separations on all four tires from 1/4" to 2" with from 5 to about 20 individual separations on each tire. Complaint #727191 indicates the same pattern of failure as well as the same dot #. Ford dealer blows me off and no word from Firestone yet. I'm replacing my tires tommorrow(05/31/01 and they won't be Firestone!). I strongly urge anyone with a Ford super-duty and Firestone steeltex tires to replace the tires immediately. After reading the complaints summaries on this site, I'm convinced these tires are as dangerous and probably more prone to failure than the infamous wilderness tires. While driving down the freeway at 70 mph I heard a loud pop pop pop as I confirmed it was my vehicle and proceeded to the right lane and to the shoulder of the road the left rear tire blew out causing the vehicle to fishtail. I was able to maintain control and stop safely. The Firestone tire has a tread seperation idenical to the Firestone tires on the eord Explorer. I am concerned that these seperation problem on Firestone tires are simialar to those in the '70, S and that they are limited too one size or model. (dot number: Vdw81xm tiresize: Lt26575R16)
