This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Vehicle regularly loses all throttle response for 5-10 seconds, usually around corners at low speed, but sometimes while driving straight. This lack of response is alarming when pulling into traffic. There is no light on the dash indicating traction control is activated.
I was stopped at red light intersection my truck went into idle mode (start/stop) when light changed I tried to proceed through the truck engine/electrical transmission locked up. I had to turn the truck completely off and open one of the doors to be able to restart the truck and move through the intersection. it has done this repeatedly I have taken it to Ford they have tried to charge me an astronomical amount to diagnose it.. with no guarantee of it being fixed. I have almost been rear ended 3 times!
Leaving a parking lot and after turning right, the truck failed to accelerate for over 800 feet. Over this distance, the accelerator was pressed all the way to the floor and the truck stayed stuck in 2nd gear, slowly increasing from 2,000 rpm to 2,500 rpm, and from 17mph to 21mph. After this time, the accelerator pedal was pumped, and the truck responded with normal acceleration. This is not the first time this truck has had the issue, but it is sporadic, and almost always when turning right from a rolling stop. This has a high potential of causing accidents when trying to turn on to a road with higher speed traffic and unable to accelerate as expected. There were no warning lamps or messages indicating an issue with the vehicle. The issue is not consistently reproducible for Ford to inspect it, but it does happen a few times a month.
Front Camera Fault causing Adaptive Cruise Control not to work therefore forfeiting any added measure of safety at highway speeds. The issue was investigated and was fixed at the local Ford dealer by installing a new camera, camera control module, and wiring. Warning message came on every time the truck was started and warning light came on saying that adaptive cruise control could. not be engaged
Unintended acceleration event. Initial condition: Cruise control off. Steering wheel turned 270 degrees ccw, turning left, at a complete stop, released brake, rolling forward at less than 5mph in a confined parking garage. Continuing to turn wheel to left, my right palm accidently engaged the cruise control button on the steering wheel. Cruise control automatically set to 15mph and began to accelerate. I was able to engage the brake again in enough time to deactivate cruise control. This is not the first such incident I've had where the cruise control is accidentally engaged and begins accelerating the vehicle to 15mph. Anecdotally, they have all occurred during left turns. Seeing how it engaged today, I can now understand why I couldn't figure out why it was happening previously. Due to accessibility issues, I typically turn with a single hand while allowing my other to remain capable of grabbing to maintain control. How easily my palm brushed the cruise control unintentionally was shocking.

After starting the vehicle at a motel in the morning, and backing out of the parking spot, I put the vehicle in drive and gave it a little bit of gas (wheel cranked to the left to finish turning out of the spot), and the vehicle rapidly accelerated across the parking lot. I hit the brakes and the vehicle stopped accelerating. I looked down to see the cruise control set to 15 Mph and crossed out (disengaged due to brake engagement). I never set the cruise control at that speed. To the best of my knowledge I never bumped any cruise control buttons that morning. To the best of my knowledge a software glitch caused cruise control to set and engage, from a stop, to an unsafe speed considering the circumstances.
With cruise control engaged, the set speed would randomly change up or down changing vehicle speed rapidly. Most dangerous part was some times the speed would set itself from around the speed limit where I set to as much as 20-30 mph above the posted speed limit up to 90 mph. The speed would instantly increase by 5,10,15,20 mph all of a sudden which is not possible to set with the cruise control buttons as they only increase or decrease in one mph increment. If it is some sort of speed limit sign reading system it failed and caused a dangerous situation for me and my family. I have video of multiple instances. This is dangerous and life threatening for the occupants of my vehicle and others on or near the road and could easily lead to loss of control, injury or death.
When making 90? turns such as an immediate right turn or a left turn across one lane, gas pedal becomes completly unresponsive halfway through the turn for approx 3 seconds. Occurs about 1% of the time but drastic when it occurs. Almost multiple accidents have occured with oncoming traffic almost t-boning me when making left turns or being rear ended on right turns: people don't anticipate a vehicle stalling and slowing down when entering traffic and people have swerved into other lanes or the shoulder to avoid a collision. When this occurs, it is like the vehicle goes brain dead, the gas pedal can be pushed to any threshold including floored with no change to speed; rpms dont even increase. Vehicle has been through Ford troubleshooting multiple times and at one point early on, had a Ford engineering/ specialist working remotely with the dealership. Findings from this specialist: two upcoming ota updates will be released that will resolve this concern. One of the updates was in regards to the trailer brake module and the other something else as equally ridiculous as not pertaining to my issue. OTA updates came and issue never went away. Years later, multiple appointments with techs saying unable to duplicate. Dealer now saying they have no record of working with a specialist even though I have the service records from them stating this and electronic communications from Ford regarding this. The issue is not resolved and still occurring. Vehicle now out of warranty so likely will never be repaired. Not faithful in thinking NHTSA will care, they didn't care when this vehicle had complete brake failure at 7k miles which was later found to be due to incomplete or bad programming, but maybe this will help others know they are not alone if experiencing this issue.
After braking to enter drive way. The truck accelerated spontaneously causing vehicle to hit a wall. Similarly on previous occasions the truck has lurched forward when releasing the brake after coming to a complete stop at red lights or stop signs.
With the cruise control set to a speed of around 60mph and with no other vehicles around, the truck accelerates (uncommanded) to some value over 71mph. This occurs randomly but is repeatable and has only started occurring within the past week. A definite safety concern.
My brand new F150 2021 had a powertrain malfunction with power totally reduced. I had no ability to accelerate. I had to glide over to the side of the road. I restarted the car. It reset, i went to accelerate and again i had an error code and my car froze. I was able to restart again and drive over to my Ford dealership i purchased it from at 15 miles per hour. The problem was reproduced once and confirmed by the dealer. The dealer has contacted Ford and was told they have never seen that error code for a F150. The GM of Ford here in Montana told me if they cant reproduce the problem again, i can have the truck back. This truck is 3 weeks old. I am terrified.
Cluster will randomly shut off causing all gauges to act like the vehicle isn't on. Then it will turn back on. I notice that transmission temp gauge will be the only gauge that wouldn't go back to normal. It will take several minutes for gauge to reset. The risk is not knowing your speed and causing a distraction to what is happening while driving. No dealer could redo the problem.
