The accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. While driving, the vehicle jerked forward unexpectedly. There was an abnormal clunking sound detected. The vehicle was driving erratically. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the transmission was leaking fluid and needed to be replaced. The mechanic advised the contact to stop driving the vehicle. The contact called the local dealer, who stated that the parts to repair the vehicle were on backorder. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not covered under warranty or recall. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who informed the contact that the failure was normal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.
