Affected Component: POWER TRAIN
- Summary
- SSM 47903 - 2018-2019 F-150/F-Super Duty/Transit - Rear Axle Pinion Seal Fluid Leak/Seepage Some 2018-2019 F-150, F-Super Duty, and Transit vehicles may exhibit the appearance of a fluid leak or seepage from the rear axle pinion seal. The appearance of a fluid leak or seepage on a vehicle with less than 500 miles or less than 3 months in service may not be due to a failed rear axle pinion seal. The appearance of fluid around the seal may be from the axle assembly being shipped to the vehicle assembly plant with the pinion facing down. To determine if a leak is present, clean the seal area of any residual lubricant and visually inspect the pinion seal for leaks or damage in the seal contact area or dust slinger on the pinion flange dust shield. If no concerns are found, run the vehicle on a hoist in DRIVE at idle speeds for 10 minutes to allow the fluid to circulate and recheck for signs of leakage.
