The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the failure was caused by the catalytic converter. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact called the same local dealer and informed about a diagnostic test to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 51,214.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact noticed smoke exiting the tail pipe. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact was advised to have an oil change performed. The vehicle received an oil change; however, the contact stated that the failure reoccurred three months later. In addition, the contact stated that the oil level was 2-quarts low, and smoke was coming from the tail pipe again. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with catalytic convertor failure. The contact was informed that the catalytic convertor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the catalytic convertor was replaced one year prior. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
