My neighbors swore that I drove a diesel by the sound at start up. Cam Phaser replacement from what I understand is a common issue with this motor. I am having them replace the timing chain, tensioners, and water pump since the Cam Phaser work is covered under warranty, out of pocket for the cost of parts, but no labor cost since it's warranty work. Still wouldn't drive anything else. Other than this issue, absolutely nothing else to complain about.
Sound comes and goes. There're days when there's no sound at all. Then it shows its ugly self. Sound starts like a humming sound like driving over rumple strips, then there's this rattling sound. To me the sound is a link between the engine and exhaust.
Noise can happen first thing in the morning, 100 feet out of the driveway to a 1/4 mile down the road in the neighborhood. It has happened after being parked about 1/2 hour. So the motor doesn't have to be dead cold.
I started to hear rattle noise from my F150 2018, 3.5l. And of course I went to my dealer to resolve this problem. But they told me it's normal sound and they didn't see anything bad.
After that I went to another service and they told me same.
After 5 times visiting, some mechanic approved my notifications and they replaced camshaft phaser.
Brand New 2018 f150 Crew Cab XLT Sport 5.0 V8 leased on Saturday 10/08/2018. 36 miles during test drive, 39 at end of test drive, 42 miles upon delivery.
After taking delivery, a water leak was found in the rear cabin which lead to the discovery of water and mold under the carpets. Called the dealership and was told to bring back for service on Monday 10/10/2018 because service dpt. was closed. Checked engine oil and it was considerably low

On 10/10/2018 the Ford was dropped off at the dealership for the leak, engine rattle and low oil.
Carpets are going to be replaced but have yet to hear back regarding the engine rattle and low oil level.
