While driving on a us highway at 65 mph, I had a need to suddenly apply the brakes on my 2016 Ford F-150 and there was a sudden failure. The brake pedal had to be depressed the entire distance to the floor to finally get the vehicle to decelerate. Afterwards a warnings light came on indicating low brake fluid. Despite adding fluid to the reservoir the brakes would still not engage. The vehicle had to be brought for service where it was determined that there had been a failure in the master brake cylinder. Fortunately this did not result in an accident or injury.

I have owned my 2016 Ford F-150 super crew lariat for almost 3 years. I purchased it brand new from a dealer in palm beach county Florida. I am on top of my routine maintenance and have just had my truck serviced 3 weeks ago. On 7/20/19 my truck's brakes completely failed while driving from my house on a residential road. I had to use my emergency brake to stop my vehicle from going through a stop sign. Thankfully, I was not involved in an accident. My master cylinder had lost all its fluid but there were no signs of leaks. I added brake fluid and I could see it leaving the reservoir. It appears to be leaking into the brake booster. I had to have my truck towed to the dealership and I'm waiting to hear back from the service department.

While driving to work a red brake warning light came on the display and I tried the brakes. The brake pedal went to the floor and I had no brakes. I pulled over in a safe spot checked the brake reservoir and it was completely empty. I started the vehicle and smoke started pouring out of the exhaust. Had it towed to a Ford/Lincoln dealer and they said the master cylinder and brake booster needs to be replaced $890. There is no Ford recall for 2016 F150S which is unbelievable since this is a serious safety issue. Did some research and there are multiple lawsuits for the same issue on 2013-2018 Ford F150S. I called Ford had a hard time understanding the rep and she created a case number. Called them the next day after speaking with Ford dealer and there was no case to be found. The second Ford rep made a case # cas22180343, was very helpful and the rep said Ford will make it right. This remains to be seen. Meanwhile I'm without a vehicle. I had a 2005 Toyota Tacoma and never had any type of issues. Hopefully this helps and gets Ford to recall 2016 F150S so no one gets hurt. Also had to replace all brakes, rotors and pads for $924.72 on a 50K mile vehicle is very questionable. Thank you

  • 44,800 miles

Vehicle operating normally until problem noted 7/13/2016. Vehicle purchased used from certified Ford dealership on 5/16/2018. Currently has approximately 44,800 miles on odometer. Vehicle has been parked overnight and upon am startup and backing up suffered complete loss of braking ability when brakes were applied. Low brake reservoir indicator light on. Visual check revealed reservoir level well below minimum mark and level with inlets for the brake lines. Refilled, pumped brakes and able to obtain moderately firm pedal. Started vehicle, let idle few moments, tested brake pedal but found soft pedal again sinks immediately to floor and reservoir light on again. Visual check shows fluid again has emptied as described above. Vehicle had not been moved. A visual trace of all brake lines shows no external leakage along length of the lines nor at any brake component. Fluid is obviously being drawn into the vacuum boost reservoir. Vehicle has not been altered in any way from date of purchase. This is an extreme safety issue with a high probability of loss or life and/or severe injury to passengers and/or collision with other vehicles or objects due to this sudden, total brake failure. This is a catastrophic failure of the master cylinder system that produces a failure of the redundant braking arrangement (I.e. separate front and rear brake systems). This appears from a quick google search of other complaints to becoming a known problem. Prompt action is urged by NHTSA to initiate a recall to correct these problem for obvious safety reasons.

I was driving home from work and vehicle was functioning normally. Unexpectedly the "low brake fluid" warning appeared. Approximately 1 to 2 minutes later I stepped on the brake and it went to the floor. The first time I pressed it slowed the vehicle slightly. I ipressed on the brake again and it did not register. It was terrifying and I felt fortunate to be able to make it to the side of the road without collision. This happened on a major city street moving about 40 mph.

After 71K miles, the brake master cylinder needs replaced due to brake fluid internal leaking to the brake boosters. Lost all control of braking power. $1100 repair to replace master cylinder and brake boosters. This happened on 7/6/2019 while driving home. The low brake fluid light came on while driving and noticed substantial loss in braking power and had to push brake pedal all the way down to slow the truck to a stop at stop sign.

While slowly pulling out of a drive way the driver applied the brakes but the pedal went to the floor. A mechanic's inspection determined the booster failed causing brake fluid to flow into the master cylinder. With no fluid in the lines there is no stopping ability.

I was parked at a retail store when the check brake fluid light cmae on. I check the fluid and it was almost empty. The brake pedal was going all the way to the floor. I purchase fluid and replaced it and drove home about two miles away. By the time I got home the light came on agin and the pedal was going to the floor with very little brakes. I called my mechanic (who works for Ford) and he said to check because he thought there might be a recall on the brakes. There is not one but there are a large number of complaints on the issue. It is so bad the master cylinder is on back order with no timeframe given on when it will come in. I also cannot get an after market part from someone else due to backorders. It is obvious there is a mass problem that Ford is ignoring a safety issue.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. While the vehicle was being serviced by antelope valley Ford (located at 1155 auto mall dr, lancaster, ca 93534, (888) 415-0959), the contact was informed that the brake booster, brake cylinder, and bushings needed to be replaced. The failure of the brake components rendered the brakes inoperable. In addition, the brake pedal extended to the floorboard. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,178.

3 miles into my trip with several starts and stops. Low break fluid warning light. Pulled over with working breaks but reservoir was almost empty. Loss of breaks after a couple more stops. Topped off break fluid reservoir. Ran motor 5 min before low fluid warning light, no sign of external leak. Leaking appears to be from master cylinder to vacuum buster. Pulled vacuum line from vacuum buster eliminated the loss of fluid. And was able to limp home with manual breaks.

I was driving on the North Texas tollway today. Get a low brake fluid warning light. When I tried to slow down the brakes went to floor. 0% braking. Fortunately, coasted tot a stop on the inside shoulder of a high speed tollway - dangerous. Eventually towed to park cities Ford (dallas, Texas). Had I taken the next exit I would have entered a busy multiple lane highway system from an elevated overpass. Very likely would have been a major accident with high likelihood of injury. This is a well maintained vehicle. Recent service. No wrecks. No brake fluid seen where the truck was parked prior to today's event. Absolutely, no warning.

I was driving to work and on my way about 7 miles into my drive, I received a notice on the instrument panel indicating my brake fluid was low, I click the ok button and continued driving, ummiediately upon coming to the next light to stop my brake pedal went to the floor as I pressed hard to stop, the truck did not stop and I ran the red light but making a turn and nearly hitting oncoming traffic. The truck camed to a rolling stop and I pressed the emergency brake and stopped on the side of the road. This truck I purchased last year in February of 2018 and has only 32,000 miles but Ford said the truck warranty had expired and the cost was $1235.41. I am fighting Ford and had opened a case but their investigation determined they are not at fault! I am here to see if NHTSA can have them recall their brakes.

  • 68,767 miles
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. While driving approximately 30 mph, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle when the brake pedal was depressed. Also, 'low fluid' displayed and the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard. The vehicle was cautiously driven to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the brake booster and master cylinder were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 68,767.

Came to a stop sign and everything worked, at the next stop sign it was as if someone flipped a switch (residential area with many intersections). My brake pedal would sink to the floor and could barely stop the truck. However if slamming the brakes the ABS would function and stop the truck as expected. Inspected brake system and fluid level was above minimum in the reservoir and found no external leaking of brake fluid (failure was internal to the master cylinder). Towed back home and isolated master cylinder and found it to be the issue. Replaced master cylinder and brakes function properly again. (when I removed the master the boosted still held vacuum and fluid was not leaking into booster. )
