About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I noticed a small round plastic part on my drivers side floor mat that appeared to be a flat disk broken in several pieces. See photo. I didn't think too much about it at the time. A while later my neighbor said my brakes lights were on and my truck had been parked for a quite some time. After not being able to get the brake lights to go out and some internet queries I was able to determine and confirm the small plastic disk came off the top of the brake pedal where it would make contact with the brake light switch. As small of a part as it is, the brake lights were affected and the hill assist function warning was coming on as well. After checking Ford does not sell the tiny plastic disk, worth about 5 dollars, but will sell the entire brake pedal assembly for hundreds. Other auto manufacturers sell the disk called a brake pedal stop pad. This problem is occurring on other Ford as I was able to find examples like mine on the internet. There should be a better designed part or brake pedal to prevent this from happening.
While driving my 2015 Ford F150 on a city street at 45 miles per hour the vehicle lost acceleration, rmp dropped to barely 2 and hill assist disabled light came on. Glided to a red light, put the vehicle in neutral, came to a stop and kept the gas lightly pressed hoping to keep power to the engine. When lighted turned green put truck back into drive and acceleration returned. Parked at my place of business. Shut the truck off but the brake lights stayed on. Had the vehicle towed to the dealership because of concern to drive it after losing acceleration (tow truck driver call the vehicle in limp mode). The dealership found not fault codes but did find plastic pieces on the floor board. Dealership said it was a "broken brake pedal" - a small plastic disc (grommet) inside the brake assembly broke into pieces causing loss F acceleration, the electronic messaging system to disable hill assist and the brake lights to remain on. Dealership said they have seen this in Ford Fusion but not in an F150. The new brake assembly is a total redesign from the the one that the vehicle was built with. The image on the left is the broken brake assemble (the finger is pointing to the damaged item), the part on the right where you will see the small white disc (grommet) is the replacement brake assembly. I purchased the vehicle new in 2015 and have been the only owner. My vehicle has 54K miles, is driven locally, not used to tow or off road and is garaged when not in use. A vehicle loosing acceleration while driving is a major safely concern and I hope this will be investigated as it is a known issue in other Ford vehicles.
Toxic fumes in cab while driving after turning on rear window defroster. Pulled over, abandoned vehicle and the a low bank and the rear windows shattered
I own a 2015 Ford F150. I was driving at 60 mph, the vehicle abruptly decelerated. The wrench and limp mode warning lights illuminated while the failure code P2112 occurred. I had to coast my vehicle on to the road shoulder and restart the engine. I had to stop and restart numerous times before I could make it home, off of a busy highway. When it stalled on me the next day, I had the vehicle towed to the dealer and paid for a diagnostic that located a failure code at the throttle body.

Door locks on the drivers side both front and back has stopped locking electronically. You can still manually lock and unlock the doors. Neither the remote or the factory mounted toggle switch will lock or unlock the drivers side doors. All the other doors including the tailgate work normally.
I stopped while pulling a trailer, fueled my vehicle, hopped back in and the trailer brakes were on constantly. I disconnected 7 way plug and trailer brakes released. I tested trailer braking output at the 7 pin plug and the brake output was stuck on. I turned the gain down to zero and it was still staying on. I checked the trailer for a short and all check showed trailer wiring as ok. I found on an F150 forum many complaints of the same thing happening to 2015 and 2016 F150's and dealers replacing the trailer brakes module and the tow module.
Heated seat connector under passenger seat had a burnt ground connector and a burning plastic smell. Fire hazard. Replaced connector out of pocket in accordance with the Ford tsb on this issue.
Turned on the rear defroster and 5 minutes later as I was parking at the grocery store parking lot the back window exploded. Loud pop noise and awful burning smell. Back glass was completely shattered.
Cruise control shuts off during operation. Intermittently will not turn on. Analog speedometer will indicate speeds in excess of 40mph slower than real speed. Stuck at 40mph when comes to complete stop.
Electric rear tailgate falls down randomly while driving at speed or even while parked. Tailgate has fallen 5-6 times while truck is parked in last few months and also 5+ times while car is driving. It has fallen while truck was in reverse, and while truck was traveling on country roads at speeds of ~40mph. Please note - this issue seems identical to the one Ford just announced a recall for on the 2017-2019 F-250 superduty trucks. It must be related. Our truck was in the shop just last week before this recall was announced. This truck should be included in the recall the tailgate most recently fell 11/28/19
Driving down the road today being mindful of the speed limit since I just got a speeding ticket two weeks prior. I looked at the speedometer and it read 62. I know the difference I speed variation just from driver feeling and experience. Well I applied the brakes and the speedometer did not move. When I reached my destination I put the car in park and noticed my speedometer was frozen at 40 mph. So now according to the trucks brain 40 mph = 0 mph
The factory/ dealer installed tow brake controller does not apply enough brake power to stop trailer. When towing my 5th wheel(10000lbs)it works fine when I manually apply the override button but when I apply the brake pedal the trailer brakes don't get the command to engage with enough power to stop trailer, my truck is doing almost all of the braking. I have read online where many Ford F 150 owners are having similar issues. Ford says there is nothing wrong. I have been towing using the manual override switch or learning to slam on the brakes to stop. The trailer brakes do work almost when I slam on the brake pedal. I am sure that this shouldn't be happening because it's not safe.
Engine block heater recall #19S11 Ford NHTSA # 19V-278 it has been over a year now waiting for replacement part...keep calling Ford and they say parts are in, but I called dealer and they say not till October of this year, they keep putting it off.
While operating vehicle, electrical issue occurs that locks windows and turns off air conditioning. Vehicle cabin becomes extremely hot very quickly. Ford dealership unable to diagnose issue yet continually reoccurs. Not safe to operate the vehicle until the issue can be corrected. A search of the internet revealed numerous similar issues occurring in Ford trucks.
Randomly the hill start assist control error would come up. Additionally, service advance trac error would come up and the truck would go into some sort of limp mode with no acceleration allowed. Finally, the truck started running really rough. All these things would happen while I was in motion and or turning. I have been broken down on the side of the highway 4 separate times now. Everything is really random and can't be replicated. It's done this about 10 times now and the dealer has no idea how to fix it. My truck has been there for over a week with no remedy.
Vehicle was stationary in parking lot. Truck bed illumination lights on third brake light assembly over heated and melted third brake light assembly. The lights come on when the doors are open, and there is no way to turn them off without closing the doors.
Truck suddenly loses power, electrical systems fail. Repaired multiple times by dealer diagnosing wiring connection fail under seats. Continues to fail. 5 times in shop since 2016, no longer under warranty.
