2015 Ford F-150 Lariat Supercab 3.5L Ecoboost. While wife was driving home from work, a "Brake Fluid Level Low" warning popped up on the dash. As she exited the freeway she related the brake pedal seemed "mushy" and that she could definitely tell something was wrong. We do not live too far off the freeway and she was able to drive safely back to our house and parked in the driveway. After parking, I opened up the hood and found there was no brake fluid in the reservoir. I checked the brake pedal and could tell there was no pressure because the brake pedal went straight to the floor. I filled the reservoir up to the max line with new brake fluid and after a couple brake pedal pushes, it felt like there was some pressure back in the pedal but it still didn't feel right and the low brake fluid level warning never went away.
I decided to let it sit over night and check it in the morning to see if there was a leak somewhere. In the morning I went and checked on the truck and the reservoir was completely empty again but I could not find any fluid on my driveway and there were no signs of leaking from any of the tires. I had the truck towed to a local mechanic who discovered that the master brake cylinder had failed and that it would have to be replaced along with the booster. The mechanic related this is a super rare issue to have on such a new truck and advised that the 2013-2014 F-150 had a recall for a similar problem. I contacted my local Ford dealership and they stated there was no recall on my truck and that I would have to pay out of pocket since my vehicle was out of warranty. Hopefully Ford fixes this issue because this could have ended so badly and I am thankful my wife was able to get home safe after this failure.
