Vehicle runs great most of the time, but when driving at highway speeds for a couple of hours in the rain, snow, humid or misting conditions, the truck will sometimes lose power and start shaking/stuttering when accelerating to pass another vehicle, or when climbing a hill.

Most of time, it is a very slight shudder but when under heavy throttle, the engine will start cutting out, loose power and speed, and the check engine light will start flashing. When this happens, I will have to pull over to the slower lane of traffic, or onto the shoulder. After about 30 seconds the check engine light will either go out, or come on solid.

It is very frightening when this happens but it has happened enough times that I almost expect it when the conditions are right for it to occur. I have taken it into various Ford dealerships as I am usually out of town on vacation when it happens. They have applied all the TSB’s recommended by Ford Motor, but obviously they can’t recreate the issue on demand and apparently can’t correct it.

This is a very dangerous issue and I would support a total recall of all Ecoboost vehicles until corrected.

While heading back to Missouri from a trip to Florida, the 5 of us, after driving for about 3 hours, stopped at the Dizzy Dean rest area in Mississippi on Hwy 49 which was on the southbound side of the highway while we were heading northbound (left turn to cross traffic to get into the rest area) without any driving issues so far. Upon leaving the rest area, we had to go back across the southbound traffic lanes from the right to make a left back onto the northbound lanes of the highway, and with oncoming traffic from our right (normally a safe distance away but still oncoming). With traffic oncoming, I had to accelerate a decent amount to get up to speed and then the engine shuttered/sputtered and lost power and would not accelerate beyond enough to keep us barely rolling forward. With a tractor-trailer heading our way quickly, we were lucky to get over to the far shoulder with the stalling engine. Once off to the shoulder, I repeatedly let off the accelerator and re-tried to see if I would give the power back, but it would not. So I pulled off to an outer road that happened to be close by and got to a safe area where I could turn off the engine and restart. Once I restarted the engine, it ran fine and the issue did not occur the rest of the way home and has not happened since but have only driven about 1000 miles since.

However, the five of us WERE NEARLY KILLED BY THE ONCOMING TRACTOR-TRAILER, and so I don't take the situation lightly!
