The entire time I have owned this vehicle it would occasionally have the shuttering and power loss effect till it went 5000 passed my extended warranty and then engine imploded. So they just blow it off as a common issue but now they want me to pay 10000 for a new engine for a problem they always knew about.
The timing chain in the engine gets prematurely stretched and requires replacement so timing chain failure does not occur. I had the chain replaced in Jan 2017 completely and the issue was supposed to be completely resolved. 1 year later the same issue is back and the chain needs to be replaced again. It is a loud rattling noise that occurs on start up and can cause complete engine failure. Several hundreds of complaints can be found about this well known issue. Ford refuses to acknowledge it. The early model 3.5L ecoboost engines are causing the stretching of the timing chain and a recall needs to be placed on them to ensure customer safety
Multiple occurrences of shudder/jerking on 3.5L ecoboost engine; exact symptoms as described in NHTSA id#10051923, 10052207, 10053407, 10052790, 10052788, 10058096, and 10058115. All of these investigations have been closed with Ford issuing tsb's, but dealers claim ignorance, ignore copies of the tsbs and refuse to perform repairs under drivetrain warranty. This is a safety problem as failure to accelerate entering an interstate highway has almost cost me two collisions. Apparently NHTSA is as useful on complaints/investigations as fcc is on do not call list complaints. Opened a case with Ford, response is they cannot force dealers to perform tsbs under warranty. All three occurrences of this problem were after driving at highway speeds for a minimum of two hours in damp conditions under hard acceleration; two were when re-entering highway from left lane service areas in NJ and md. After 1st two times a dealer in md replaced two ignition coils at my expense claiming coils were not covered by drivetrain warranty. Most recent occurrence was 1/1/18, local dealer in nh ignored Ford tsb 12-10-19 when given a copy and said "these trucks just burn coils and spark plugs". I was charged a diagnostic fee again and nothing was replaced/fixed as I refused to pay approx. $600 to replace drivetrain parts.
Cold starts create rattle in engine area. Ford tsb 16-0027 covers this problem but the dealer, dick witham Ford in waterloo, Iowa continues to play games with covering this issue. Truck has been in several times for other issues, some covered, and I asked if there were bulletins about lag in acceleration or other things that may cause this. They told me multiple times, no, just a computer reprogram that I already had completed. Now my truck is making noise and by all reports on the web, it's going to get worse. Ford knew about this going back to August 19, 2015 (see tsb 15-0131) yet never told me or looked at my truck to see if that was causing my issue. Now with my truck just over 5 year old but still well under the warranty for miles, it may not be covered. However, the new tsb clearly states dealer coding 6C525 and condition code 42, it is under warranty via the emissions. This is my 5th new Ford truck over the years, I will not own another. With the price we pay for brand new cars and trucks the manufacturer must be held to what they promise the consumer. This is a timing chain stretch issue caused by poor design and the variable camshaft timing (vct) units leaking causing timing chain damage. Ford's fault, not mine.
My truck does two things, both with the transmission. 1rst this is random and happens at any unsuspecting time and at all speeds. The truck goes into limp mode (killing all power) starts to clunk in and out of gears to the point it locked up the tires once going 55 mph for a second as this is happening my mph needle goes to 0, also the wrench light comes on. The other problem is random as well. The truck displays the airbag light while driving along, the transmission will get stuck in third and won't shift, some times it gets stuck in first and never make it up to 6th gear it will eventually shift through the gears as this is happening the miles, avg fuel display goes to all blanks. Both very unsafe and very scary, as I don't know when it will happen. I will not put my daughter in the vehicle until I feel it's save to do so.
We purchased our F-150 on or about 1/2/2018 with no known problems, the next day it didn't want to start and several engine codes showed up. The dealership said they cleared, reset program and we shouldn't have any more issues, but said their is a recall on engine coolant and they ordered part. The next day the codes appeared and we brought it back to the dealership for the same problem and they said it was normal for the truck to learn our driving habits and the codes would disappear. We left and the next day the truck didn't want to start again and we are currently driving it to the dealership for the same issues. 1/9/2018
Water pump failure at mere 76,000 miles. Vehicle was maintained per factory manual. Location, southern California non-desert. Large puddle of coolant after 20 mile drive one day. No other warning signs. Dealership repair shop diagnosis says hose leaks and failed water pump.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and lost power. The check engine indicator immediately illuminated. The contact managed to pull the vehicle over to the shoulder of the highway and the check engine indicator dimmed briefly. The contact called the nearest Ford dealer and was informed that since the check engine indicator was no longer illuminated, he should continue to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to larry H. miller Ford lakewood, 11595 w 6th ave, lakewood, co 80215, (720) 643-1545) and repaired. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they added an air deflector per technical service bulletin: 13-08-01. The contact was concerned that the manufacturer did not issue a recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,251.
My 2012 Ford F-150 3.5 L eco boost, on start up in the morning the engine makes a loud chatter in the upper front of the motor, I purchased the truck 2 mounth's ago it had 54000 miles on it, purchased as certified pre owned.
At 70K miles, my timing chain stretched causing me to have to have it replaced costing $3200. This is a known issue by Ford and there is an official technical service bulletin for this issue. This issue is dangerous and caused serious acceleration issues while driving almost causing a wreck as I tried to accelerate up hill.
While driving, I noticed that I was having to push on the accelerator harder to get power. I came to a stop at a stop sign and waited for an opening to turn left at the intersection. When I started to turn left, the truck started to accelerate and then the engine sounded like it revved up but there was no power or speed increase and a simply coasted out into the middle of the road. The traffic coming from the left was coming up over a hill and I was very lucky that they were able to stop before hitting me. The truck was able to pick up speed down hill, but lost speed quickly going up hill. I could see this being a dangerous issue when crossing a busy intersection or trying to pass. I took the truck to the dealership and was told the timing chain stretched. The truck had only 74000 miles.
Loss of power while driving, depressing accelerator does not power the vehicle, speedometer needle not working. Once able to steer vehicle safely to side of road and turned off and back on, vehicle responds as expected. Happened twice already, on 8/24/2017 and 8/29/2017.
While driving on the highway I experienced severe reduced engine power during a acceleration for an attempted pass. An issue Ford was aware would happen without the deflector plate due to design flaw! no alert to the owners that it was a potential concern, bring the vehicle in for a check - no word at all! if there was a known problem with their turbo design leading to compounding premature failure, why wouldn't they let the owners know" the dealership would have had ample opportunity to inform me of the issue if that was their intention as I visit regularly
I have a 2012 Ford F 150 with 66,800 miles on it and have changed one of the turbos. About may of 2017 I noticed a shutter and shaking of the engine, then lose of power, failure to accelerate on hills, the vehicle would down shift for no reason or you had to put the gas peddle to the floor to even move then it would kick in and cause the wheels to spin. I took the vehicle to my local Ford dealer to diagnose the check engine light. I was told that one of the turbos needed replaced at a cost of $1800, well I had it replaced at my own personnel garage and after driving the vehicle 5 miles it had all the same issues. I called the Ford hot line 3 times asking what they will do to fix my truck, I was told the warranty ran out at 60000 miles, I explained the vehicle just started doing this and I did not haul anything and only drove it about 12000 miles a year, this should not be happening. This is very dangerous trying to drive a vehicle that losses power then accelerate without warning. Ford told me there were some recalls on the 3.5 L eco-boost engine but not on my truck. I have been a Ford man for over 40 years, I bought this truck brand new in 2012 and Ford will not do anything but charge me more money, I do not beat my truck I baby it, I take very good care of my vehicles, this is not my fault it is poor engine designee and Ford should fix this for me because as I said it is a safety hazard for me and anyone else on the road with this engine.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle misfired and the steering failed without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 70,000.
