Downshifting when passing. We had this issue starting way back before the truck had 25000km on it. Reported numerous times to dealers. Computer never showed any codes for the issues we were having but when the mechanic came with us, he saw and heard it. However, because of no codes, Ford wouldn't do anything. Now as of early spring 2019, they have acknowledged this problem, however, they still as of June 20/19 have NO fix for owners of the 2011 Ecoboost. From 2013 up they have already addressed this issue! This is ridiculous! Ford NEEDS to get their crap together.

This is just one of the many issues we have had with this truck. We had so many that CANVAP said yes Ford should take the truck back (less than 25000km) however because we financed this vehicle we would still have been on the hook for around $10000.00 which we couldn't afford to lose. So instead we invested in extended warranty for a much longer period, it sure paid for itself.

F-150 XLT 3.5L Ecoboost

As with other complaints I have been reading about, my 2011 F-150, 3.5 L Ecoboost,(35K miles only) ,shuttered, lost speed and the check engine light has appeared on the dash, while trying to pass during acceleration. This has happen twice in the past 5 days. I am reading up on other complaints and have to find the time to bring it in for check engine light diagnosis. When passing other vehicles, truck will start to buck and shutter, and provide no power needed to complete the pass. First time the truck took about 3 to 4 mins to stop shuttering and the check engine light was flashing, then went out. Second time, which was 3 days later, same occurrance, truck did stop shuttering after 3 mins at a steady speed, could not accelerate, but the check engine light has remained on. Reading up on this issue, so I can be prepare for Ford's response to problem. Not happy, as I was always a GM buyer, but wanted to give Ford a try.

Went to the local Ford dealership to see if covered under the TSB. They stated could not duplicate the problem and in any case. My truck was not under warranty and not covered by all the TSBs? They stated couldn’t even look at the truck for a week, so I went to a local mechanic garage who ran the DTCs and confirmed the lead frame unit was crapped out. They ordered a new unit and quoted a repair price of $1280 which was parts and four hours labor.

Ford dealership used to have a good reputation, but they have been downhill in the last few years. Next vehicle will have to be a Dodge :(

THIS TIME I was driving at a slow rate of speed in a parking lot. The engine continues to run, but I lost all power to the transmission. The wrench light shows up on the dashboard.Immediate solution is to shut the truck off and restart---power returns.

I have experienced this problem two other times and both have been fixed by the dealer without cost. The last indication that there was a service bulletin on the issue, but I can't find any indication of a TSB on the Ford site. My first incident was about 18 months ago and the 2nd was in June 2018. From my personal experiences and my readings, this problem has been going on long enough for FORD to find an answer before someone gets hurt/killed because of this issue.

In June the problem repeated itself 12 times on the way to the dealership for repair. I was on hilly country roads and then 4 lane highways. I use this truck as a daily driver AND to tow our travel trailer. I sure pray it never happens while we are towing the trailer.
