transmission would not upshift and gas mileage poor.
This problem happened while I was towing a new 19ft 3500lbs travel trailer from Michigan to Florida. When I left Michigan I was getting about 14mpg, not great for a truck that can tow more than 8000lbs but acceptable. When i reached Kentucky the mpg was down to 10 or 11 mpg and the transmission seemed to get stuck in a lower gear after cresting a hill. I stopped at a Ford dealer to check the problem and they told me that they needed to reprogram the PCM. The problem got progressively worse after that. When I arrived in Florida my gas mileage was down to 7 to 8mpg and the truck tried to turn-in to every gas station along the road.
I took the truck to a Ford dealer to get it checked and the results were " INSPECTED TRUCK, MONITORED FUEL TRIMS, GOOD. CHECKED FOR CODES, NONE FOUND. TRUCK IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED."
I found my own solution to the problem. I sold my new trailer to a Silverado owner who is very happy with it and my gas mileage is back to about 20mpg average.
