My King Ranch one owner no dents F150, after going through a car wash, ended up with three locations of peeling paint, one large spot on the tailgate, one smaller spot adjacent to the bed liner, and a third on wheel gold trim. Immediately after the wash I went to Ford Paris, Tx. and during the customary walk around, we noticed the defects! I went to the manager of the car wash and was advised to get estimates on the repairs. I went to Reno Paint and Body and it is their opinion that the paint is defective after calling Paris Ford. The repair estimate is $1184.59.
While at Paris Ford for my servicing, when we saw the damage, I asked if this was usual for Ford. He said he would check and later claimed that this was unusual and Ford had no recalls. However, going to the internet I find that this has been a problem.
Ford dealer repainted four doors and tailgate April of 2013 on warranty (42981 kms). Initially they refused but did finally comply.
Subsequently, I discovered more of the same bubbles forming from under the paint, same as the first paint failure described above, on the same panels approximatly the same areas.( 2-3 doors and the tailgate, which is ,by far, the most heavily and the most seriously affected. This was November 12, 2014 . The same dealer refused to repair, as warranty had run out ( 65000 km). We finally agreed upon a shared cost to repair the same paint job @ 25 percent me, 25 percent dealer, and 50 percent Ford. The painting was completed on April 5, 2015.
So, less than 10 months later, rust from under the paint was bubbling in the same areas and the same way (from under the paint) on the tailgate, seriously and less but still appearing similarly, on 2 of the doors. Ford has not responded to my complaints seriously ( they offered to give me a great deal on a new vehicle - hopefully not a Ford).
