The steering sticks when turning left, but can be un-lodged with a hearty yank on the steering wheel. This has been happening periodically, on an irregular basis for the life that I've had this vehicle. Pain in the rear, potentially unsafe if you don't know the vehicle.

This could be a very dangerous issue. Turning to the left at highway speeds causes the steering wheel to lock up. It is hard to force the wheel back to the right.

Power Steering failed in my 2011 Ford-150 Lariat Supercrew 4X4 (68,200 miles) while leaving home. Steering Wheel locked up, impossible to turn, lucky to be going slow, could have been a disaster at highway speeds. This is a bad problem and Ford needs to step up and do a Safety Recall for this, before someone is killed. Truck was towed to local Dealership where it's being fixed for $2,078.00. Not covered by any Ford warranty or recall. There are hundreds of complaints on the web about this problem.

2011 F150 Ford Truck while driving and towing a 18ft lite trailer the steering locked up and we went off the road. Thank the Lord that we were on a country road when it happened and therefore did not hit anybody. But, there we were out in the middle of no where with no cell service. We got out the manual and it said to keep the engine off for several minutes. We did that and then the steering seemed to come back....but 15 miles down the road it happened again. We got cell service and called a tow truck to come get the truck and the trailer to get us home. I am reading on-line today all the complaints about the steering problems with Ford Trucks (and other vehicles they make). There has been no recall to fix the problem and others have paid out of pocket from $1200 to $2000 for replacing the entire EPAS system. Ford has know of the steering problems since 2002. Only a "Class Action Suit" will repay those of us with this problem. Go on-line and file a complaint in addition to this one: The Center for Auto Safety (CAS) Report a Safety Concern NHTSA and to : Ford Customer Relationship Center: P.O. I Just Purchased a Used 2011 F-150 XLT 4X4 From a Car Lot and It Only Has a Warranty on Motor and Transmission. Drove The Truck and 2 Days Later I Found After Driving a While The Steering Locks Up When Turning Left at Speeds Below 60 and Takes a Pretty Good Pull to Straighten The Wheel and At Times You Almost Hit The Car Beside You and At It's Worst At 60 Can Get Pretty Squirrely I Hear Ford Has a Recall on 2013 & 2014's For This Problem. After Seeing All The Other People With The Same Problem I dont See Why The Consumer Has to Fork Out The $1750.00 to Fix Something This Dangerous Before It Becomes Deadly Like The Firestone Problem or If it Hasent Happened Already and Nobody is Aware This Has Caused It or Is Hiding It

When my truck hit around 40K miles I started randomly having a problem with the steering somewhat locking up. It can still be turned but it gets really stiff. When this occurs you can be in the middle of a turn and literally let go of the wheel and rather than returning toward center the wheel will hold position in the turn. you have to physically turn it back to center and it's very choppy. It's a huge problem and it isn't safe. Outside of the warranty I have an issue spending 1800 bucks fixing something on a relatively newer model. Particularly when it is a well known issue with the model and some are covered by a recall. Mine should be covered by the recall as well before this ends up in a lawsuit or even worse, getting someone killed.

F-150 Lariat 3.5L

  • CVT transmission

So far, the problem is minimal. It's disconcerting when the steering seems to have a mind of its own, but I have been able to easily overcome it. I just worry that it might become more than I can overcome at some time in the future, or worst completely change the direction of the truck.

Update from May 21, 2016: The steering intermittantly takes a "set". Last time it was on a left turn accelerating onto a highway. The truck wanted to just keep turning left after I was on the highway, and this time it took more effort to get it on track in it's lane. I am concerned that it will just run me off the highway and cause an accident.

WHIL MAKING SHARP LEFT HAND TURN I HEARD A LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE AND THEN GOT THE ADVANCE TRAC FAULT. IT RESET ITSELF AND A FEW WEEKS LATER GOT THE SAME SOUND AND FAULT. ABOUT 3 WEEKS LATER I HEARD THE SAME SOUND AND THE STEERING LOCKED INTERMITTENTLY AND I WASN'T ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL LEFT DIRECTION.

HAD VEHICLE TAKEN TO LOCAL FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD BY SERVICE TECH THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, COST $1750. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BY FORD. THIS CAN PUT A DRIVER IN AN ACCIDENT RESULTING IN INJURY OR POSSIBLE DEATH UPON FAILURE.

F-150 FX4 5.0L

  • Automatic transmission

My 8 month pregnant wife and I were driving 55 mph to our home. Out of no where an error appeared on my dash board, "Power Steering Fault". At that time my power steering went out and I struggled to pull over. The manual says to turn the truck off for 10 seconds then start again. If the error returns take it to a dealership. They quoted me at $1,753.89 or something retarded. I am still trying to find a better quote and have yet to have it fixed. How the hell is this not a recall!!! Ford really does stand for Found On Road Dead!

Very dangerous and can't believe there is no recall. I was driving, went to do a u-turn and the steering completely locked up. This happened a dozen time before I could get it to a safe location for the tow truck. I was told by Ford that this has been a problem but there is currently no recall. The part alone is about $1000.00 (EAPS electric assist power steering). I guarantee that this problem will cause a major accident in the near future and people will be seriously hurt or killed.

Ford needs to step up and fix this or it will be another situation like GM is going through. They know about the problem and are doing nothing to fix it.
