My 2009 Ford F-150 Lariat at 67K miles had an ABS, Check Brake, and Traction Control light malfunction. I took it to my Ford Dealer and they diagnosed the problem as the ABS system. They further stated that the problem could be the ABS ECU or the HCU or both. They could not pin point the actual fault, and said that they would not know until they ordered a new part and then replace. However, the ABS unit, they told me, is $1200. I looked on several Ford OEM parts sites and found new OEM ABS Unit (ECU+HCU) for only $700. So, my dealer does not get a trustworthy rating. Our vehicles are so technologically advanced, don't you think that we could also devise a diagnostic system that would be able to "pinpoint" the exact problem? We have a diagnostic system in the military called "STE-ICE"; that is able to do this. This just bugs me.
