The first sign that something was going wrong was a loud whining noise when I turned the wheel, sounded like a sick whale. Saw that the PS fluid was low, added some and the noise came back a few days later. Took it to the shop and they found that the return line from the rack and pinion unit for the Power Steering fluid had rusted and was leaking. They ordered the part from Ford and replaced it.
