I never had any symptoms that the transmission was about to go out, it just happened I wasn't even towing anything and just like that it needed to be overhauled(1,650). I was never told about this problem or possibility of replacement, of course not why would the seller tell you something like that, that is why I have taken the time to tell everyone to do the research before you proceed to buying a ford or any vehicle in this matter, this could save you a lot of money and frustrations!!!!

ok so i buy a 05 f-150 beautiful truck 7 months ago and had no problems until now. i was hauling a 18 foot flat bed trailer out on the woods full of four wheelers, and i get to a good spot to park it, i tryed to go on reverse and nothing it wouldnt even move backwards but it would go forward so i was like WHAT????

I have contacted Ford they told me that this isn't a common problem. However after talking to the mechanics this is becoming a recurring issue with newer model ford trucks. I do hope that more people will start to come forward. I'm told that most trans repairs are needed @ 75k average. My trans went out at 49k. Standard waranty on 05 models is 3yr 36k. Newer models have a 5yr 50k.

Should'a bought the Chevrolet! After a leisurely 135-mile trip, I tried to back into a parking spot and it wouldn't go into reverse, then jerked backward a few times, then wouldn't go backward. Going forward it made a horrible grinding noise in first gear. The transmission shop found a bearing had come apart in a planetary gearset and the parts had gone through the whole trans. After replacing virtually every internal part and $1826 later, it is now running again. Note that this has just 57,000 miles! I never drove it hard or towed anything heavy before. Now I'll have to baby it and never carry anything heavier than yarn, like that Ford commercial. Consumer Reports didn't report this, but there are a bunch of similar complaints on this site.

Bought used 2005 F150 four months ago and just paid for $2500 for rebuilt transmission. At 35,000 miles the snap ring failed making noise which resulted in discovery of broken sealing ring in center of transmission. Tranny shop said never seen this before and would start paying attn to 2005's.

Pulled up in front of my house and put it in reverse, and nothing. Thought the gear selector was just not in reverse, but this was not the case. I still had drive though so off I went to Ford. Ford called and said $1,800 just to open it up to see whats wrong and no telling how much for parts or $2,500 for a new one. I told them I don't want to take a chance on that transmission so put in a new one. In the mean time I called Ford (what a waste of time), then the service rep (what a joke), and then finally, the regional rep (same BS). So I went to the owner of Sunset Ford in Saint Louis, and long story short I received a $500 check in the mail two weeks later.

It started with a ticking noise. I took it in to the dealership of course they told me it was nothing. Within 500 miles it started hesitating then slamming into gear. I took it to the dealership again. They told me again there was nothing wrong with it and I was not driving it correctly. Needless to say I got pissed off and demanded that the shop manager come with me to drive one of the new f150's off the lot to see if they drove the same way. He would not. A week later while pulling my job site trailer with about 15,000 dollars worth of tools in it the transmission pops and stops pulling. Dead in the middle of the road in the ghetto of Kansas city Missouri. 2,650 dollars to rebuild the transmission within 5,000 miles same thing minus the trailer. 3,000 for a new transmission. Yesterday it started ticking again. I would like nothing more than to see Ford motor company go bankrupt.

Bought 2005 F150 new with every available option. The transmission went after 44,000 miles. The transmission shop said it looked like it came out of a race car. The truck was never ran hard, used occasionally for pulling a 5,000 lb trailer which it should easily handle. The vehicle was 10,000 Km over factory warranty and ford would not cover a thing. The cost of a Ford rebuilt $5,900, transmission shop $2,500.

My nice looking Ford purchase at a dealership on Cape Cod, MA. This vehicle was purchased with 21K miles and a complete BRAKE JOB was needed at approx. 30K miles (which I paid for out of pocket-not an expected expense with a truck with 21K miles) At the same time I reported to the Dealership the problem I was hearing in the MOTOR, FRONT END AND TRANSMISSION. The story ends like this the dealership never noted I brought the truck in for the transmission problem. Now at 47K miles it needs an entire transmission at $2,500.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well i own a 2005 F150 with 44,650kms on it and i just recently had to get my transmission replaced, it had been completly shot everything needed to be replaced so a new transmission was installed and covered under warranty. This was a hastle but being covered under warranty i was not to upset. So i get the new tranny installed and within the first 50kms i noticed a whinning noise coming from the NEW transmission, so i bring it back to the dealership and they say nothing to worry about they will look into next time i bring my truck in for service, so that following weekend i drive 500kms up to my cabin and when i arrive i notice the transmission is makine a noise like there is a tin can stuck in my transmission. than next thing i know the exact same problem as the previous transmission its completely shot and cannot drive. So here iam waiting for my 3rd transmission within 44,000kms.

I thought Ford was built "TOUGH", guess not. My warranty recently expired and my truck transmission went out. WOW! 1500 miles over warranty. Costing me 2700 dollars to get my transmission overhauled. I called Ford and they couldn't help. Dont think I would ever buy a Ford again unless they can reimburse me for the expenses overhauling the transmission.

We will never ever buy another FORD product. The dealership service people fix it long enough for the warranty to go out then don't want to fix it again. They should have fixed it right the first time. We will go for something different soon. FORD SUCKS!!!!!
