Just under a year ago, I noticed that my airbag light would come on, apparently at random as I couldn't spot a pattern. It would blink three times, then stop for about ten seconds, then blink again three times then stop again. This would go on for about five minutes until such time as the seat belt light would stay on without blinking. The only detail I ever found was that it only happened after the truck was warmed up - it would never happen in the morning when the truck was cold until after it had been running a while or if it had been sitting in the sun a long time.
After a few months I took it to Ford and was told that the airbag light was being triggered by a faulty relay that tells the airbag system when the passenger side seat belt is in use. Being that I hadn't had anyone ride with me in months I told them that that seat belt was rarely used and they did the repairs, changing several parts and charging just under $500. As I was driving home, voila, the airbag light comes right back on as before, so I do a u-turn and go back and tell them that they hadn't fixed it. Then they told me that I had a water leak somewhere in the back, possibly around the rear window, and that was probably causing a short somewhere but that it would (you guessed it) cost more money to diagnose.
That was December 2014. At this point I've been living with it and to date have seen no evidence of water leakage in the cab, no wet upholstery, seat cushions, water stains, corrosion, etc. I would still like to find out what this might be before I trust Ford with more expensive and inaccurate repairs.
