First of all, I am not after $$. I purchased this truck in April 2002. Its been a great truck and without this awful problem, it still is.
My truck experiences SUA. Its happened 4-5 times now. I've been trying to figure out the problem.
I Immediately replaced the throttle sensor w/ a Genuine Ford part. Replaced the Throttle air valve. Took Throttle Body off and thoroughly cleaned. T Body was hardly dirty and obviously was in good working order. These efforts did not solve problem, nor did I think they would? Valve and sensor were not expensive and T Body was simple to remove and clean. No Brainer to do these tasks. I took truck to good shop and told mechanic. He couldn't find a problem as I had no engine light or codes? So on we went.
Now, I still drive the truck. But I am not going far and I am ready when it happens again. I go to neutral and wait it out. Lasts about 20-30 seconds. It accelerates to Full throttle. My foot is nowhere near the gas pedal and I do not have floor mats.
I've been reading everything I can find on this subject. It gets technical and becomes legal. The thing is, I have this F-150 and I can guarantee it will accelerate again. No driver error here. No floor mat issue here.
I sent a report to the NH Safety people. They can come test it if they want. I am almost 100% sure if you accelerate after hitting a certain speed it will "take off". I am hoping somebody contacts me to do a test run.
