I have a 1999 Ford F-150 extended cab there is a crack in the metal area next to the window area on both big doors. I contacted the local Ford dealership and they told me that certain model years that this has happened. These cracks are getting worse. Since I found this I look at other Ford trucks and on certain years I believe 1999-2003 or 2004 on the ext.cabs that these cracks appear on either one side and certain years on both sides. I have called Ford but they will not respond. I can fax you a picture of these cracks if you like. I believe these cracks have been there since manufacture date.
The contact states there is NHTSA recall campaign 05V388000 concerning the vehicle speed control:cruise control. The parts needed for recall repairs were not available at the local dealership. He spoke to the manufacturer, who confirmed the parts were not available at this time. Updated 12/27/2005. The tires had excessive wear at 20000 miles. The seat belt roller has been replaced three times. The air bag control was replaced. Both doors had stress fractures. The rear brake lines were not secured properly which resulted in wear. The wheel hubs came off while driving at highway speed. The driver side exterior rearview mirror was defective.
1999 Ford F150. The consumer stated that door on driver's side cracked just above the door handle. The consumer contacted the dealer, they said they could go 80%, the consumer could go 20% on the balance to have the door fixed. This would take 3 to 4 days. Door was cracked before the consumer bought the vehicle. The consumer stated this was a structural defect. Dealership said it was a known structure defect. The consumer was not satisfied.
There are structural cracks developing on both driver and passengers doors on the rear upright adjacent to the exterior handle. Updated 07/25/2012 information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My Ford F-150 has a defect in the doors that causes the metal to split and then rust. I contacted Ford directly, who told me they have no knowledge of the problem and that the warranty on my 1999 had expired a few months ago. This is a common problem as can be seen by checking at: www.F150online.com/forums/showthread.php"S=&threadid=1266 www.F150online.com/forums/showthread.php"S=de44bce6977B55250bd9B03E02B22148&threadid=1468&perpage=15&pagenumber=1 a picture that is the exact same failure that I and many other owners have is here: www.F150online.com/articles/cracks.html I took it to a local bodyshop and the estimate to repair was over $500, but the owner told me that it is a common problem with Ford and that I should contact them. Which I did, only to be turned away. Updated 07/25/2012 information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Drivers side door has a small stress crack in the sheet metal by the lower rear weather striping on the window, called my dealer and Ford they couldn't help me.
I had a spark plug blow out of the head on my truck. It is a 1999 Ford F-150, with a 5.4 liter Triton V-8 engine. I had never heard of this, until the mechanic at my local dealership said they had seen it before. Also at an earlier date the sheet metal on the drivers side door about three inches from the bottom of the window cracked. Its has cracked two more times since then. They (Ford Motor Co.) finally put a new door skin on, but a man who I know that runs a body shop said it's in the door itself and that a skin wouldn't prevent it from happening again. I'm just very disappointed in the products that are on the market anymore they lack quality and they don't last for near as long as they should.
Doors are cracking approximately 4 1/2 inch from the bottom of the window where the door handles are located. Vehicle has never been in an accident. Manufacturer is aware the problem, and a repair kit is available. The cost of the kit is $600 per door.
There was a horizontal crack in the drivers side door about 1.5 inches above the bottom of the window opening. The crack was progressing horizontally toward the back of the door.
