I purchased a brand new Ford F-150 Sport 4x4 back in 1999 from the Ford Dealership in Gaithersburg, MD. I used it primarily on weekends and for light residential use around my house. It has never pulled a trailer or been taken off-road. It has less than 49,000 miles on it. It has what I would consider major rust issues underneath on the drive train, differential, cross-members, muffler, chassis, the parts that attach to each of the four wheels etc… Last year I had to have one of the brake lines replaced because it rusted through and failed. This past Fall, the same thing happened again (brake fluid all over the driveway). So, I’m thinking it’s either the other brake line or the one that was replaced. Luckily the lines gave out when I was in the driveway and not driving on a major roadway. I notice the rust is so bad that sometimes slivers the size of potato chips fall from the bottom of the truck. I have been told that a little rust is to be expected but this is excessive. I have never seen a vehicle rust away so much, so quickly (less than 49,000 miles). I’m afraid to even drive the truck anymore – don’t know what else could fail. I wrote to the Ford Dealership and have not received a response or even an acknowledgement (what does that say?).
