On April 2, 2000 while traveling on the parks hwy. This vehicle accelerated & continued to accelerate out of the driver's control. The brakes were applied heavily for three quarters of a mile or more in order to slow the vehicle & find a place to pull to the side and attempt to turn the vehicle off. Once this was achieved, the vehicle restarted normally. Nye Ford service dept. Was contacted & a PCV kit was installed by that dealership on April 19, 2000. On August 13, 2002 this vehicle again accelerated & continued to accelerate out of the driver's control. The same procedure was used to stop T he vehicle. The vehicle started normally on the fourth attempt. During the first 3 attempts to restart the vehicle, the engine was revving out of control.
Either while using cruise control or shut off cruise control is engaged, and used to pass another vehicle, vehicle will accelerate and continue to accelerate erratically. Driver must turn vehicle off in gear on straightway to gain control. Sometimes when this condition persists engine revs very high.

I have noticed a couple of times that due to the relative positions of the brake pedal and accelerator pedal (both in lateral distance and in height) that if you do not get your left foot entirely over onto the brake pedal while stopping or holding stopped at an intersection that you can also catch the accelerator pedal while trying to brake. This results in the truck trying to move forward and the operator trying to depress the brake pedal further with the result being to depress the acclerator pedal further as well. This can occur without realizing that your foot is partially on the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal (once the brake pedal is depressed far enough) I have caught this occurring several times and it can be quite disconcerting when the truck starts moving forward even though you are deprssing the brake pedal harder and harder. I believe the problem to be a design related one that is built into the design of the controls. While it has not resulted in an incident with my truck yet it certainly could especially if a person panics and doesn't realize what is happening. I believe this failure could explain some the complaints recieved about the trucks accelerating when the brake pedal is depressed.
Whenever applying brakes intermittently it caused vehicle to surge forward. Pedal would get hard, and vehicle would continue on before stopping. Vehicle has been in/out of dealer shop on six occasions, dealer informed consumer that nothing could be found. Feel free to provide further details.
Cruise control was engaged. Went to release it by tapping brakes & pushing button., cruise control remained engaged. Vehicle was not slowing down. Hit off button & vehicle increased in speed. Hit brakes hard & noticed smoke coming from wheels. Turned vehicle off & restarted. Engine would race & cc still be engaged. Shut vehicle down again & heard a pop. Restarted vehicle & tried to reengage cc & failed to engage. Taken vehicle to dealer & mechanic could not locate problem.
