The tread on the tire is separating from the remainder of the tire. A Firestone dealer has inspected all 4 tires and advised me of this condition. He also pointed out that the metal bands are showing though in several areas where the tread joins the sidewall. He also pointed out knots in the tires. They are scheduled for replacement next Wednesday with a 60% mileage adjustment. I was advised my particular tires were not covered by the recall. It is my opinion my tire failure is the same failure that is being experienced with the 15" tire and this particular size should be looked into as well.( dot number: W2081pt276 tire size: P235/70R16 )

Bought the vehicle used Jan 2000. Developed vibration characteristic of out-of-balance tires. When I had them balanced and front end checked, one tire had to be replaced due to tread separation. Vehicle still has slight vibration at highway speed, and I suspect another tire may be becominhg separated. Firestone claims there have been no reports of failures of the 16-inch wilderness ht. Can this be the first?( dot number: Unkn tire size: P235/70R16 )

My tires are not listed in the recall but I think they should be. I had a tire person check them and he said they are cracking and should be replaced as soon as possible. Firestone has not gone far enough in their recall, leaving lots of people like me on the road with unsafe tires and no help.( dot number: Tire size: P235/70R16 )

Driving down the interstate at 55 mph, all the tread came off my tire. The shrapnel caused $1200 worth of damage to my wheel well and gas tank. It tore off the tube from the gas tank which allows one to fill the tank. I lost control of the vehicle for a short time, but luckily I was in the right lane and maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road. The tire didn't deflate. Another tire went flat a month ago. It deflated in a parking lot and couldn't be replaced because all of the rubber had caused a lump on one side of the tire and completely fell apart after it was changed. A year ago, another "exploded" going approx. 30 mph. All of the tires had more than adequate tread left on them. We are submitting a property damage report to Continental/general tires, 1440-L westinghouse blvd., charlotte, nc 28273. We have also sent the tire from the 7/27/00 incident back to them. It is probably not covered by any warranty but it is odd that 3 of these tires failed in unusual ways. It is a miracle I was not injured from the last incident. I am lucky the fuel tank was not ruptured, only the fuel spout was missing and gasoline had not leaked out. I was not able to put gas in the tank. The tire with no tread looks like the Firestone recall tires. Have you investigated the general tires or had any complaints?( dot number: 2842006D tire size: P235/70R16 )

I was driving on hwy 64 North from hampton va. To annandale va. I was in the middle lane when suddenly I heard two explosive sounds and immediately realized there had been a blowout. I immediately had to lock my arms to the steering wheel and slowly eased the car to the right shoulder. Upon getting out of the truck and viewing the damage I realized that I was fortunate that I was uninjured. The blowout left two holes four inches in diameter. The blowout was at the point on the tire where the tread and the main body of the tire meet.( dot number: Tire size: P23575R15 )

Since I recently learned about Firestone's tire problem I thought I would send this to you. In 1998 I was driving 70mph in my 1997 F-150 on an interstate and my right rear tire (Firestone wilderness) blew out. Since it was the rear tire, I still had steering ability so I did not wreck. I now buy Goodyear!!( dot number: Tire size: 215-75-16 )

Tire failed and very nearly caused crash.elmira, N.Y. Firestone store (eric)denies any type of responsibility or recall. Mr. Bill vanderwater at Firestone denies any kind of fault or recall with tire. Another tire dealership told me about the Firestone recall, my wife and neighbor know about it and it was on the nbc evening news but Firestone denies it. I require some proof in writing that Firestone has issued a recall on their wilderness tires because I intend to take Firestone to court.( dot number: Unknown tire size: P235/70R16 )

I traveled to houston fron North Carolina. On my way back my passenger side rear tire fell apart on I-610. Lucky for me, I was just getting on I-610 from an on ramp. I was able to safely pull all the way over to the right. I found that my tire had just torn apart on me. I called Ford extended service and they had a tow truck come in and replace the tire with my spare. Once in nc, I repaced all my tires for fear of a reoccurance of the problem in my other tires. Unfortunately for me, I replaced the tires with the same name brand and type. I did not know that the tires were under investigation or I would have bought another brand. I estimated the $300 damage on the lost tire, the questionable condition of the mag rim, and the lost rim cover. I think that it is criminal that Ford and Firestone have known about this problem for years and not informed their customers. I hope NHTSA does everything in their power to correct this. I will continue to pursue this with both Firestone and Ford.( dot number: Tire size: P235/70R16 )
