Engine sputters and dies when going down the road. I know it's a 6 cyl fuel injected, but it acts as if it's vapor locking. Runs well in cold weather but will not stay running in summertime. Problem used to be intermittant but has grown more and more frequent.
Would not start for several months. Wouldn't turn over or make any noise. Battery showing about 10 amps. One day went out and suddenly the fuel pump was making noise when ignition turned. I reset the fuel pump relay switch located just under the dash on the drivers side. Truck turned over, then started after a couple more tries. Truck ran for 3 days, then would not start again after turning off engine to fill up at gas station. Had negative cable from battery replaced-- ran for 2 days, then sputtered and died while in motion. Thought it might have been out of gas because of how it acted, but it still had close to half a tank. Had a friend push it home; still couldn't get it to start. Next morning, started right up.
Have replaced all leads to/from starter, solenoid, battery. Ground replaced. Battery is good. New starter, new solenoid. Fuel pump good. Distibuter good. All mechanics have failed to fix and don't know what to do. They "don't know what to tell you, it doesn't make any sense." Have spent several hundred dollars to diagnose and rectify issue, to no avail.
Runs like a champ, when it runs, but is unpredictable. Only guarantee is that it will die. Afraid to take it anywhere because I've already had to tow it a couple times.
