MY BRAND NEW 2018 FORD EXPLORER LEAKS WATER!!
I purchased a 2018 Ford Explorer XLT with Auto Nation Ford in Corpus Christi, Texas on May 29, 2018. On June 20, 2018 I noticed the passenger side floor board was completely drenched with water. This was during the time we had heavy rainfall. My vehicle was parked at work. There was no flooding in the area, no windows left down. The water was only on the passenger side floor board and under the passenger seat.
I contacted my Sales Rep Via text message and he advised me to take the vehicle into the Service department "ASAP." On the morning of June 21, 2018 I dropped the vehicle off at the service department.
The service department claims they checked the window seals, air condition, underneath the car, under the hood. They tested the windshield as well. They could not identify the defect or where the water is coming in from. I decided to do some research through some Ford Forums. From what I've found during my research is this has happened to other owners.
In fact in 2015 the Ford Motor Co. ordered dealers to stop selling some 2015 Ford Edge Crossovers for this exact reason. Many Ford owners have stated that this kind of issue becomes a re-occurring problem. In addition many technician are not able to identify the leak or where the water is coming in from even after a "water test" or Water Pressure Test. With the 2015 Ford Edges the problem involved water seeping through a joint in the front pillar, behind the hood hinges.
Currently, the Service Director is involved in my case and he informed me they could not find the leak and they have checked everywhere. I advised him to run the vehicle through the car wash. According to Consumer Reports, engineers discovered that running the Ford Edge through a car wash led to sopping wet floors on the drivers side.
After I suggest the technicians run the vehicle through the car wash. Ten minutes later the service director calls me and tells me he did see water leaking in when they ran in through the car wash. So then they think they found the leak/defect and send the vehicle into the body shop and collaborate with Ford to place a sealant. They order new carpet. They think the problem is resolved. I get another phone call from the Service Director on 7/9/2018 to inform me the car IS STILL LEAKING. My BRAND NEW 2018 Ford Explorer has been in the service department now for 21 days.
I have only had the vehicle for 22 days when this problem occurred. I have not made a payment and I haven't received my plates yet. This is a brand new vehicle. At this point I feel very uncomfortable taking this vehicle home. I am not happy with this situation and I am having buyers remorse because of this issue.
With the 2015 Ford Edge's, technicians who did not find evidence of a leak were instructed to install a urethane sealer in the A-Pillar seams. In 2015, vehicles that did not have signs of water inside were held for a 3 day assessment to allow time for further inspection, letting the sealant dry and confirming the problem had been fixed. If the vehicle is STILL leaking after a 3-day assessment, Ford may have to buy it back, according to Consumer Reports. My BRAND NEW CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR 21 DAYS! One Edge owner complained to federal regulators.
