The side wall of my hankook 255/50 R /20 ventus S1 noble 2 tire blew out. I have a 2" hole in the side wall of the tire. I was at a stop sign on a city street, and just started moving when the side wall blew out. It sounded like a large balloon explosion and the tire went flat instantly. Some hankook tires have been recalled but the local Ford dealer told me not this one. These hankook tires should be recalled.
All 4 hanook tires dot # 5mnc 1A H (0216) 255/50/R20 treads have been chipping resulting in unsafe conditions and excessive wear. Tires completely worn out at 23,000 miles. Manufacturer is aware if this resulting from new compounds (materials) used in manufacturing. High speed blowouts have been reported for this particular tire yet no recall has been issued for this tire despite its defects and safety concerns. I first notice it on two front tires just prior vehicle was taken in for annual service May 2017.
We purchased a new 2016 Ford Explorer Sport 4WD 4dr in 2016. The oe tires on the vehicle were 4 hancook ventus S1 nobel 2 tires, sized 255/50R20. The dot rating is "5mnc 1A H". at 13,369 miles all 4 tires were replace under "warranty". the front tire treads were "flacking/peeling". the work was done by mathews-currie Ford, 130 tamiami trial North, nokomis fl 34275, on 5/10/17, ro # 6199123/1. our cost for the tires was $419.62. We were forced by hancook to replace "like with like". at 23,101 miles I took the vehicle back to the same dealer to have the oil changed. The replacement tires are again "flacking/peeling." The dealer tells me that we will have to replace them with the same tires. They also tell me that this a reoccurring problem with this brand of tires. My background is that of an executive in the oe and aftermarket automotive and heavy truck industry. My employers manufactured foundation brakes, brake chambers and ride control. I know an unsafe situation when I see one and this one is not safe. I was involved in a major safety recall on ride control and know what it can cost a company to not recognize what their potential liability can be. I am not comfortable for the safety of myself and my family with hancook tires. My request is that someone from your legal staff contact Ford's legal department and warn them about the future liability being created for them by one of their suppliers.
All 4 original hankook tires provided on my 2016 Ford Explorer are shredding and treads are delaminating at 16,000 miles and 14 months of use. There are currently 14 other complaints about this issue under 2016 Ford Explorer complaints, but those people did not list them under the tires complaint portion of this website! please look into this issue, as it is clearly nationwide and reminiscent of the Firestone Ford Explorer issues!
