My wife, and 2 friends, were attempting to merge onto a major highway when the vehicle lost all power without warning and was almost struck by a passing semi. The wrench symbol came on. Vehicle drifted to the shoulder of the road. Her friend called her husband who knew immediately what the problem was. He told my wife to let it sit a few minutes then try to restart it. It did start and drove it home with the wrench symbol on. Did a quick internet search and found out this is a well known problem by Ford. The throttle body needs to be replaced. This vehicle only has 8,000 plus miles. Tonight we are going to attempt to drive it to the dealer after all the traffic dies down. Someone is going to end up dead or badly injured. Why hasn't Ford done a recall?
I have recently had problems with the throttle body in my 2016 Explorer, to the point that the truck would not move when the gas pedal was pressed. I was stopped at a light and when it turned green I stepped on the gas pedal and the car started to buck and then would not accelerate. I coasted to the side of the road before stopped and put on my hazards. I called Ford roadside assistance and was stuck in the side of the road with my 2 kids while it took more then 3 hrs before I cancelled and left the car until the following morning for aaa. It was sent to freehold Ford where they told me it was a throttle body defect and that it needs to be replaced. Today, 7-23-16 the same issue occurred while I was trying to leave the parking lot of a restaurant and head home with my family in the car. This is the second time that this has happened and I have only had the truck only 8-9 months.
Brand new 2016 Ford Explorer with only 6779 miles. Unable to accelerate from a stop through a busy intersection. No indication that anything was wrong prior to this. Several dash lights came on. Car went into limp mode not allowing me to accelerate above 15 mph. Check engine light, power train light and airbag light all illuminated. Had car towed to dealership. Throttle body failure indicated as the issue. Part was back ordered for two weeks. Verified online that many other new Explorer owners have had this same issue around the same mileage. Fortunately I was not on a busy highway like some.
My wife was driving our 2016 Ford Explorer that has 4900 miles on it. After making a right hand turn the car lost power, went into (limp mode) wrenches and check engine light came on. She made it to a parking lot and restarted the car which ran ok for another mile before it lost power again, restarted again with the same result. Decided to have it towed to dealer. Was diagnosed with an internal throttle body failure. Was told by the dealer that the replaced throttle body was the same part number as the failed one. He was not sure if Ford had modified the replacement part or not. You spend all this money on a new car and can't be sure if it will maintain power at highway speed. If Ford has modified this part they should at least notify their customers and dealers to assure us drivers that the problem will not occur again.

While driving at 60 mph on a 4 lane highway, the car suddenly shut down with no warning. The wench light came on and the engine would only rough idle - pressing the accelerator did nothing. We had to coast to the side of the road; fortunately there was very little traffic at the time, had traffic been heavy we could have been in a very serious wreck. After having the vehicle towed to a dealership, we learned that the throttle body was faulty and this has apparently been a know issue with Ford for several years! this was a brand new vehicle that I have owned less than 5 months. I strongly believe Ford knows about this problem but has refused to take steps needed to rectify the situation. Even though the part was ordered on an "emergency" basis, it was over a week before the part was delivered; this seems to confirm that Ford is well aware of the issue. Ford is knowingly selling cars with faulty parts and the problem could cause a serious accident.
2016 Ford Explorer limited w/about 7K miles on it. Rented this vehicle from a national rental car Agency. On 7/8/2016 while traveling on a state rd in the middle of a major intersection the gas pedal stopped working completely and I was so lucky that I did not get rear ended or hit by other cars going by at 45mph or more. I was completely shaken up. When the traffic slowed I managed to restart the car and the gas pedal started to work again and then I was able to pull to side of the road and call the rental company. This was the second Ford Explorer that was given to us by the rental company after the first Ford Explorer 2016 also with low mileage gave us the same problem few days earlier. Luckily the first time we were driving about 45mph on the outside lane of a 6 lane state rd where we were able to coast to the side of the road. I passed this information on to the branch manager of the rental company who was not aware of any recalls for this problem. I hope this will alert them to pull out this particular model from their inventory until they have them all fixed. Perhaps this will help save some unnecessary accidents and even a fatality. We are staying away from this vehicle type and model from now on until they have a recall for this issue.
This particular problem occurred three times over two days. The first time I was driving approximately 45mph on a city street when a wrench light and airbag light came on and the vehicle's throttle stopped responding. If I let off the break the vehicle would continue to move at approximately 5mph so I was able to get it off the roadway. I turned the vehicle off and back on and it seemed to be functioning normally with the check engine light illuminated. I was able to make it to my office where I left it parked until after lunch. When I cranked up the vehicle after lunch the check engine light was no longer on. After driving approximately ten more miles I attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot when the same thing happened and I was almost hit by an oncoming truck. After turning the vehicle off for a while I cranked it again and the check engine light was not illuminated. I made it home with no issue and the next morning I left home heading to the dealership to drop the vehicle off. As I was turning left on to a side street the vehicle again stalled and again I was almost struck by oncoming traffic. I turned the vehicle off and back on and after that was able to make it to the dealership without an issue. The diagnostic test indicated that the electronic throttle body was the issue. The dealership informed me that this was a widespread problem. The vehicle I was operating is an undercover police vehicle and only has 9,000 miles on it. Had I been responding to an emergency at a high speed I fear that either I or another motorist could have been seriously hurt or killed.
My vehicle emits exhaust in the cabin while driving. Upon acceleration and deceleration, the exhaust smell is so potent, me and my passengers have to roll down the windows. I returned the vehicle the day after purchasing to the Ford dealership for repairs and have returned it for repairs many times since. They have sealed all openings under the vehicle, replaced the exhaust system, and replaced the vents in the bumper. Ford has acknowledged there is an issue with my Explorer, however, they are unable to fix it. My last repair visit in June 2016, I was notified that I need to come pick up my vehicle because they could do nothing else for it. They have tried to repair it and they are unable to repair the issue. This has caused various health issues for me, which include, headaches and nausea. Ford has ignored all of my request to resolve this issue. I am concerned I am being poisoned by exhaust.
Throttle body - has failed. Orange wrench light came on, right after making a right turn and car went into what is called "limp mode". this happened while I was at least 200 miles away from home, in mid size city.
2016 police utility: Was driving the vehicle down the highway while transporting a prisoner. Vehicle immediately lost power. Vehicle wouldn't accelerate. Vehicle had steering and brake only. Vehicle motor began to shake and misfire. Vehicle towed to Ford dealership.
I was driving home at 10:00 am after visiting a doctor's office on a busy highway at 57 mph when all of a sudden the car gas peddle is not working. The car is in complete shut down mode. I rolled through an intersection to get to safe place out of traffic. The car dash board showed a wrench and engine light and on the dashboard a message stated "see manual". the car had completely shut down. Scared to death at what just happened, I called Ford warranty number for a tow truck and waited for 2 1/2 hours till finally the tow truck showed up. When I got to the dealership where I purchased the car, I was seriously devastated. Two managers told me they didn't know what was wrong with the car, but they would work to find out. They knew what the problem was and how serious this situation was and never told me at the time. I searched the internet and found that the problem is the throttle body. It has been happening a quite a few of Ford's cars. I still can't believe the very serious situation I had been in. I searched to see if there were any recalls for my vehicle and there wasn't any. This needs to stop and Ford needs to recall all these vehicles before somebody gets killed. I do not care to own this vehicle any longer or any other Ford vehicle for that matter.. whose to say this problem doesn't exist in any other models. I was called yesterday but justin in service and was told that it is the throttle body and it was going to take along time to get the part and that he would stay in touch to let me know anything. He stated that sam gallaway Ford would pay for the 1st 9 days of my rental and then my insurance would have to pay the rest.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact stated the there was a fuel odor being released into the vehicle. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, the odor was present and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but no remedy was provided. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000. The VIN was not provided.
On 06/24/2016 I was driving my family North on I95 the belt way / Maryland 5 lanes of travel in heavy traffic. Without warning our 2016 Ford Explorer completely lost power and a wrench indicator light came on the display. This was in the approach of the ft.mc henery tunnel we had no place to go with a tractor trailer almost striking us, my family was terrified. The vehicle did start again 3 minutes later with normal rpms we attempted to drive on with this happening 4 more times causing us to go to the shoulder. I am a police officer and a traffic investigator I am in fear because this is a well known problem and we were not contacted by Ford about this problem my families safety and the publics is at an extreme risk, this must be addressed before a tragedy happens. I have since called my dealer lester glenn Ford in N.J. and they will check the vehicle however if the public is not made aware of this lives may be lost that could have been saved.
4 months after purchasing a new Explorer, it began to lurch while waiting at red lights. That same week, while driving on the dallas North tollway (70 mph), the dashboard lit up and the car began to decelerate (gas pedal did not work). After dodging cars, I made it over 3 lanes with the hazard lights on and proceeded to the exit ramp. I was able to slowly pull off the ramp across 3 lanes (rolling) to a parking lot. The Explorer had to be towed (flatbed) to the dealership.
I was driving in the left lane of an interstate highway at ~65 mph when my vehicle decelerated down to 15 mph. The vehicle was still running but it was essentially 'dead' in that nothing happened when you step on the gas pedal. I was losing speed by the second and could not make it over to the right lane due to heavy traffic, so I was lucky and found a small left should to pull over on. If there was no left shoulder, I don't know what the outcome would have been. After being towed to the local Ford dealer/service shop, it was determined to be an electronic throttle body(etb) which failed. Ford replaced the etb, but stated the replacement etb was the same as the one which failed. There was no reassurance that the problematic etb was being replaced with a more durable solution. The Ford service shop mentioned that this has been a major issue in 2015 & 2016 Ford Explorer, but there is no official recall. After doing some research on my own, I was disturbed to find that there have been many recent etb failures on Ford Explorer. Considering this issue relates directly to the ability of the driver to accelerate, it is a major safety hazard. If the driver loses the ability to move off the road, there many accidents waiting to happen.
Hi I need help we are having issue with our 2016 Ford Explorer Sport we only have it for 3 months 2K mileage, we noticed the hood vibrate at 65mph or over on freeway, I brought it to my nearest Ford dealer, "Ford serramonte" on 05/16/16 the service manager name henry said they are aware of it but couldn't do anything & they are waiting for Ford to find the solution to fix it, but they didn't even check the hood. I contacted Ford customer care team on 05/18/16 & they open a case, case number: Cas-9514452-P1Y5C2 tara melvin costumer care manger handling the case. We are prostrated because it's brand new car & already has a lot of problems, it was distractive driving the vehicle so I'm scared specially I'm always with my 1yr & 4yrs old son, they just told me to wait & it's been more than a month now & still haven't fix the problem. We bought this SUV thinking it's a reliable & safety car for our family but there's to much issues, -battery died, I called the roadside assistance, the dealer said it might be the back up camera that consuming the power from the battery when the vehicle is not running, now the camera is backorder according to the dealer. We're scared it will happen again if we're on a trip. -low fuel economy, I'm only getting 12.6 avg mpg. Epa combined 18mpg, 16 city & 22 highway I been doing a research regarding about the hood vibration problem & finding this problem is been going around since 2013 & there's a lot of vehicle owner that have the same problem, my wife brother in-law has the same problem vibrating hood 2016 Ford Explorer limited. The vehicle went into limp mode RPM and speed where reduced to 1000 RPM (max) and 5-10 mph while responding to a police matter as the vehicle is the police model and purchased as a police car. Upon research, the electric throttle body has been a problem for a number of years and has not been addressed. This is a police vehicle and not reliable at all. The vehicle has 3960 miles on it and dept is being told it will be 2-3 months before back in service. Research done on inter net finds this has been an on going issue with Ford for a number of years and being over looked by the regulating agencies.
I was traveling in the number one lane at 65mph in holiday traffic and I suddenly lost all throttle response. RPM dropped to 1,500 and speed dropped to 10mph this almost caused a rear ender since no brake lights came on. This is a life and death issue!
Driving on freeway at 65mph. Car stalled leaving no power to steering and brakes. Was able to restart and drive at drastically reduced speed. Engine RPM drops at idle at any stop on when car idling with transmission in park. Diagnosed as defective throttle body.
