I have a 2016 Ford Explorer XLT. I have had to replace both the PCM and the BCM. I think this is absolutely unacceptable to be going out at 126,000 miles. Has anyone else had issues with the PCM and BCM both failing? The issue came to rise while my wife was on a road trip back home 600 miles away. She lost cruise control and the wrench light came on. I had her stop for the night and take it to a nearby Ford dealership the next working day, which was a Monday. They diagnosed it as possibly a bad camera wire or the PCM was out. They cleared the code and told my wife it was safe to drive home. She made it about 5 miles and the wrench light as well as the check engine light came on.
Again, they diagnosed it stating the same thing but informed her it would be safe to drive home. My wife drove it home with the wrench and check engine light on. The battery died, according to the local mechanic that I had it towed to. They placed a new battery in it and let it sit overnight where it died again. They diagnosed it as a bad PCM and had to send the vehicle to the nearest Ford dealership in order to get the PCM programmed. After the PCM was installed and programmed, the check engine light was still on and the vehicle was still dying overnight. The local mechanic was not able to diagnose what was wrong. So it went back to the local Ford dealership this morning. They diagnosed it as a failed BCM which was draining the battery due to not shutting off.
They want $725 to replace and program the BCM. Is this a comparable estimate? I just paid $1100 for the PCM replacement and reprogramming. Has anyone else had issues with their 2016 Ford Explorer XLT? It has the 3.5L V6.
