The contact owns a 2015 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving 20 MPH, the contact noticed a gasoline odor coming from the exhaust. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed. The mechanic stated that it was a known failure associated with the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance since the vehicle was not under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Explorer. While driving home with the air conditioning activated, the re-circulation button was pressed and the contact became drowsy and sleepy. The contact stated that there was an exhaust odor in the vehicle. The contact became nauseated and vomited inside the vehicle. The contact was concerned that her child was also affected by the exhaust fumes. The contact stated that her child would cry while riding in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to broadway automotive (located at 1010 S military ave, green bay, wi 54304, (920) 499-3131) where it was diagnosed that the grommets in the rear compartment of the vehicle (where the exhaust pipe was located) were fractured and caused the carbon monoxide odor inside the vehicle. The contact was informed that the vehicle needed to be kept for an additional day due to the parts being ordered to have the repair completed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that there was an internal failure concerning an odorless carbon monoxide leakage. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA action number: EA17002 (structure, engine and engine cooling). The dealer (automax Ford, 3301 E central Texas expy, killeen, tx 76543, (254) 699-2629) was informed that the contact had a carbon monoxide tester that detected a high level of carbon monoxide. The dealer used their own testing device for carbon monoxide and also detected a high level. The dealer indicated that the manufacturer had no remedy or recall to provide a permanent solution unless it was for the police intercept vehicles. The dealer stated that replacing the body plugs in the rear would provide a remedy, but the failure continued. The contact's wife experienced nausea, headaches, and was unable to stand for a long period of time. The contact's wife underwent medical treatments, which caused a loss of employment due to health issues generated from the failure with the vehicle. The contact was waiting for a buy back offer. In addition, the odor smelled like burning oil, similar to oil being burned on the exhaust manifold. Boggus Ford of harlingen, Texas was made aware of the odor and stated that the vehicle was out of the 36,000 mile warranty. The dealer also stated that the extended warranty would not cover the cost of the repair and that the tail pipes and rear fenders were the affected parts.
