The contact owns a 2015 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that after visually inspecting the rear hatch, he observed corrosion damage at the base of the hatch from outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who confirmed the corrosion with no specific diagnosis but advised that the hatch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 36,000.
