I purchased my used 2015 Explorer in September 2017 from Ziegler Ford Elkhart. I noticed several corrosion bubbles on the front edge of the hood this March and showed the local dealership (Lowell, MI). They said that it was not covered under a Ford warranty unless corrosion perforated the metal, because it is outside the 3year/36m warrantee. He suggested a local body shop repair the problem at my cost as Ford would not cover it. Really?!! Truck is 3 years old, no stone chips, spotless condition, and the aluminum hood is bubbling from corrosion. How is that not a manufacturing defect?
Come on Ford, you need to do better!! This is my third Explorer, and otherwise I love the truck, but instead of promoting Ford's product I will now be warning others of this corrosion problem they won't stand behind.
Ford rust on the edges of the hood. Ford has known about this and refuses to fix it. My 2015 Ford Explorer with only 15,376 miles is still under warranty, but Ford refuses to repair the damage.
I scrimped and saved to buy this car, and Ford scrimped and saved by producing an inferior product and now I have to put out an additional $2,500 to fix the problem. Shame on you, Ford.
I guess I will just to have to wait for a year or two and collect through the class action lawsuit for this well known defect by Ford. Fix Or Repair Daily still is Ford's motto.
This paint blistering problem started shortly after the 36000 mile warranty expired. The ford service people would not do anything. This should not be occurring on a vehicle of this age and needs to be addressed by ford. Its a disgrace.
I purchased my car brand new in 2015. I noticed after about a year, that the paint was bubbling up on the hood. I contacted Ford, and they stated that I would have to pay to have it fixed myself. I have since learned that this is a problem for other owners as well. I keep waiting for Ford to issue a recall, however I'm beginning to wonder if they ever will.
My experience is identical to other hood flaking complaints. Ford won't fix. This issue will definitely lower my trade-in or resale values. My feeling right now is don't buy another ford vehicle.
I contacted Ford dealership, at the time several people were there with the same complaint. Was told the next day that there was nothing they could do. I then contacted Ford directly they said to bad so sad. This is a vehicle that spends nights and most weekends in a garage. NOT VERY HELPFUL. I have had 4or 5 Ford Explorers and Expeditions. My next car will not be a Ford.
Never had a Ford before always bought a Chevy. Never in my life have I ever had a problem with paint flaking on a hood. You would think paint would be under warranty. Needless to say i will go back to Chevy. Way to expensive to drive a car with paint chipping and quite embarrassing.
I just got done washing my Explorer and noticed the hood is peeling and flaking off in some parts. Very dissatisfying especially for how much I paid for the SUV its only 3 years old! Not sure if a bug shield would protect it from pealing more off. But damn we pay this much for a car and the paints starts chipping off. UGH!!!!!
Ford 2015 Explorer started bubbling within a year of purchase. Ford said it wasn't covered until chipped. It just chipped at 37,000 miles and Ford now says it's not covered because we are past the 36K warranty and the extended warranty (which is the highest level you can get) would not cover. Took the car into a very reputable auto body shop who honestly told us we need to fight against Ford, as this is a rampant issue and a manufacturer's defect.
I looked online and saw there are a huge number of complaints against Ford, with the same paint issue. A class action suit has even been filed and (I believe) still in court. Why doesn't Ford acknowledge and rectify the situation? This is my first American car and I was proud to purchase it (very pricey!) and am never buying a Ford again if they do not fix this issue.
2015 FORD EXPLORER paint peeling off the hood so I went back to my dealer Lawrence ford of Lawrenceville NJ service advisor looked took some pictures told me that needed to go to ford for approval.. There body shop person said the hood needs to be replaced because it is problem and ford should cover this under warranty I have extended bumper to bumper for 125,000 miles great ok leave dealer get a call the next day sorry Mr Meyers ford WILL NOT COVER THIS UNDER WARRANTY well my contract says differently ford motor company you are in breach of contract there fore I'm opening a legal case against you for the value of the monies paid out for which is 2015.90
Update from May 15, 2017: Update FORD IS IN BREACH OF CONTRACT Fords District rep unless a smart ass and basically said your problem. I wonder what my lawyer is going to say about this cost to repair 2600.00 Im coming ford rest assured see in court.
My 2015 Ford Explorer Sport has significant paint bubbling all across the front of the hood. I took it to the dealership and they told me to pound sand. Anything paint related is not covered after 36,000 miles.

My wife has a 2014 Explorer and I liked it so much I traded in my Ford Edge for a 2015 Explorer. My Edge had a lot of chips on the hood from the highway so I took my new Explorer in and had a protective film put on to protect it. My Explorer is only 2.5 years old with 30,000 miles and the leading edge of the hood is blistered with corrosion. My wife's is 3.5 years old with 38,000 miles and is doing the same thing. I now find out that Ford has known about this issue for years and will not address the issue. The consumer is not safe anymore. We have $70,000.00 worth of vehicles in our driveway that are rusting away. I wonder if the corrosion gets bad enough will the hood latch fail on the highway someday and kill us?
I purchased a 2015 Ford Explorer Limited and after about a year I noticed some bubbling paint around the front edge of the hood. I took it back to Apple Ford in Columbia MD and they gave me the number of person who would take care of me. Well, after several messages with no call back, I decided to try going to the dealer again. Unfortunately, the person was unavailable. It took me several months to follow up on this due to being active duty military. However, when I finally returned, the dealer referred me for an estimate. The estimate was about $1100 to fix the hood. The dealer representative then said they would submit a claim to Ford. He did tell me that Ford would not cover the entire cost of repair if at all. WHAT?! You have a known problem affecting a Ford product and Ford says that they won't cover the repair?! He said that Ford knows that it is an issue affecting a lot of customers, but this how Ford is handling the issue right now. Meaning, Ford knows this isn't a safety or design issue so legally they're not worried about a class action lawsuit. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE EVER.
2015 Ford Explorer, not even 2 months old and the paint is flaking on my hood. Ford will not own up and recall this paint, and the dealer told me my problem is "unheard of and caused from misuse of cleaning products."
REALLY? If you wax your car with Coca-Cola, it should not start flaking... A Dodge Durango (a.k.a Jesus Mobile) will not flake like a Ford Explorer (a.k.a Satanic Man Van with a Receding Hairline) will.
